Ive had my first handgun which is a Springfield XD 40 Service model for about 3 weeks and I have cleaned it a couple of times already. I followed instructions that came with my Hoppes kit and it said to oil the outside of the gun which I did with patches and then wiped it all down with a cloth rag. Am I supposed to leave the exterior slightly oiled and shiny or am I supposed to wipe it all off after I put a nice layer on? I ask this because the slide looks really dry and Im a bit concerned about rust developing. My other question is since I dont get to shoot too often because of the cost of ammo and range time Ive been thinking about reloading since Ive heard its cheaper and can be more accurate as well. Is there a good quality kit out there for first timers thats safe and easy to use? I dont know anything about reloading so Id like to know if there is a lot of risk involved in doing this and am I able to mildly experiment without risking injury? Thank you
