Well, lately (last month or so) i've gotten completely addicted to Shotgunning. At least twice a week, up to 250 shots per trip. So, since it was supposed to hit 70 degrees today and was beautiful (and the next 4 or 5 days are supposed to be icky) I just snuck on out of work today and went over to the range. Now, of course, not that I planned this or anything, but it was awful handy to have my shotgun, range bag, and ammo already in the truck.

Went off to Colorado Clays to just shoot trap. Usually I go with a buddy, but a. he had to work, and b. He's been kicking my behind lately so obviously I need more practice.

Figured I would just shoot trap since they are voice activated, but the sporting clays course takes at least two people (one to push the buttons, the other to shoot). But went through the first 4 rounds of trap, getting better (brutally windy, but that's ok, practice is practice) and some other guys came up, so starting BS'ing and sharing the range with them.

So, I say, wanna go shoot clays? yeah, that's great. Not that sporting clays are tough, but, one guy (not me) was shooting low 20's in trap, he got a 19 on the clays course (really windy, and some stands are right into the sun, we just took a zero on those and moved on, and saved the extra rounds for more practice.

Set a new record for me in trap and actually won the sporting clays course between the 3 of us. one stand had the first thing just went right into the sun. So, I followed it into the sun and just pulled the trigger and looked for the 2nd half of the pair. I actually hit it 3 out of the 4 times. More proof to me that I need to stop aiming and just point. (i'll learn, maybe;) )

Then, at the last one (it's very pheasant like, they both go away from you low and down tree alleys). I was screwing around so i started at low ready for the first one. I actually hit it, and was laughing so hard forgot to even look for the 2nd half. Opps.

Still better than work.
Why didn't someone warn me this was so addictive?
Oh, and what the heck is the secret on Rabbits?
:D

A good day of shooting is better than a bad day of shooting and a bad day of shooting is better than ANY day at work!

I've recently been bitten by the shotgun bug myself and shot my first round of trap last weekend. What a blast(pun intended)!

In fact(cough, cough), I'm not feeling too good right now(cough, cough), and I think I need to call in sick today(cough, cough).;)

Sounds like a great way to spend a day.

Rob, you should read Babcock's "My Health is Always Better in November".

Rabbits are never as fast as they look, shoot right for the leading edge and use 7 1/2s.

That can't be it.
I always see the nice puff of dirt fly up (they are coming down a path 90 degrees to you with a slight hill behind them so you can see where you miss) BEHIND them.
arrrrghhhh
stupid rabbits.
One day I'm just going to take the 100 clays and spend them all on that stupid rabbit til i figure it out.

I'm fairly new to shooting, and very new to shotgunning...but I have to say I'm really enjoying trapshooting, too.

So far, I've only shot trap at the Cherry Creek State Park Shooting Center -- but I've liked all of the people I've met there, and have really enjoyed myself every time I've gone. I do look forward to trying some of the other facilities in the front range. Any recommendations on other public ranges to try -- usually during the week [cough, cough]?

Based on recommendations I've read on THR, I plan to stick to Trap for a while...then hopefully explore other clay games in the years ahead.

Be sure you're not stopping your swing. Shoot as you swing past the nose of that Wascally Wabbit.

Stay with trap for the nonce, Douglas, but do try them. All of them are fun. A year or two from now you'll hear someone say something like....

"How about a round of wobble doubles from the 27 yard line, low gun?

And you'll grin as you reach for more ammo....

Colorado Clays is usually where i go. Just east of Brighton off I-76. www.coloradoclays.com
5 voice activated trap ranges, a really nice sporting clays course and they say they are building a skeet range.
REALLY nice place.
4.50 a round for trap, $30 for clays (100 birds)
it's never been fully busy where we've had to wait, during the week it's totally empty. i was up there thursday and it was me and about 6 other guys. TOTAL.
Weather permitting I'll be there tomorrow(sunday) at noon again.

Thanks Brian. I doubt I'll be able to sneak out tomorrow...but definitely will try them another day.

OH yeah
I OWNED the rabbit today.
Another fine sunday spent at the range. 8 rounds of trap, one of sporting clays. Got to the rabbit and OWNED it.
pulled a 7 out of 8, never missed the rabbit.
you were right, wasn't swinging through, was aiming. swinging and following just blew it up everytime. Boooom
Yeah, can you tell I'm psyched?
My buddy only got a 1 on that station. he got mad and shot poorly the rest of the time and thus, I smoked him.
A fine day.:D
