A pal has a fine 1943-44 SA rifle and wished to have his already possessed & unused, G.I./SA barrel installed in place of the worn original.

Rebarreling is the only option.
He would prefer to drive the rifle to the 'smith rather than ship it ANYWHERE...

So, to cut to the chase on some of the more predictable responses:
He already has the new barrel and doesn't care about potential lost value in re-barreling.
He knows CMP and others out of state can do it and is not remotely interested in this option.
He has NO desire to do it himself regardless the reasons based upon; ease, fun or any other points of view relative to that.

So.... Any ideas for a good So-Cal gunsmith/armorer trusted to do this in relatively short order.

So fellas... Is absolutely no one left in the Southern California area who will barrel a Garand?

Does the want him to have a longer barrel or just heavier ...

sorry, couldn't resist :)
I'm pretty sure that size doesn't matter - or that's what I tell myself.
That DOES bring up a funny concept though:

"Yeah man, I got a full-race Garand; 24 inch bull barrel!"
