A good Bullet Puller for Reloading Press?

Recommend Brands of Bullet Pullers for a reloading press for centerfire rifles, and .45 ACP calibers? Not looking at the kinetic type.

all the non-kinetic types that I know of only work on rifle bullets, I don't think your going to find anything for the 45ACP, there isn't enough bearing area to get ahold of pistol bullets.

RCBS and forster make collet style bullet pullers. Corbin makes a pliers like pullet puller.

Hornady has the lever for releasing the bullet. This is a bit faster than the screw that RCBS uses.

I was going to recommend the Hornady as well as the cam action lever thay have looks very convenient to use. I have the RCBS version and it works well too, but I think that cam lever still looks like it would work easier. You should be able to pull 45ACP ok, I have pulled 9mm fine and rifle bullets as well. I doubt you'de be able to grip lead bullets as the soft lead would probably just crush.....I recall trying on some lead swc bullets and there was just not enough gripable surface to try to clamp on to.

I have the RCBS puller. It works very well for me. RCBS warns that it is only for use on jacketed rounds, but I can usually get it to work on hard-cast lead with some patience.

• 9mm J-HP: OK
• 9mm plated RN: OK
• 9mm plated FP: OK
• 9mm very-hard-cast (Lasercast brand) L-RN: OK. Bullets had no or small markings on them.
• 9mm hard-cast (Kead brand) L-RN: Sometimes takes several tries to get a grip, and left marks on the bullets.
• .308 jacketed: OK
• .311 RNSP: OK

I don't have any experience using this puller with .45.

Why do I have so much experience using a bullet puller? Don't ask

I very recently went through this thought process when my kinetics bullets puller "hammer" head broke off. I ended up buying the Hornady with collets for .30 caliber and .22, because they are the calibers I most often reload for in rifle.

For everything else, I bought an RCBS kinetics puller. Why? Because it will cover all the other calibers without my having to be a collet for every oddball thing I have. Also, RCBS warranty is excellent.

That said, I contacted the manufacturer of the kinetics puller I had that broke, Quinetics/Frankford Arsenal via email. Their response was "Send us your mailing address and we'll send you a new one." I did and received a brand new one in the mail, including a new collet set, in a few days.

So now I have the best of all worlds, a collet style for most of the stuff I do and two kinetics pullers, one as a backup in case the other breaks.

+1 for the Hornady cam-lock puller. The lever action is much quicker than the srew-down types like rcbs and forster (except the quick-action forsters, but they are not available in that many calibers).

I use the Hornady cam-lock on 45 colt with 200 gr LRNFPs and it works well on those. I can see where a semiwadcutter would be hard to pull though. Maybe require a smaller caliber collet? I also use it for 8x57, and it works great on that too. My only complaint is that there is not a lock nut on the collet adjustment (that sets how much collet closure you get when operating the handle). Anybody know what thread size that is?

The forster quick action (provided it is available in your caliber) and the hornady cam-lock are the only on-press pullers that can work on a turret with other dies adjacent to them. Also on the Co-ax, though it might be a little tricky with the cam-lock on one of those.

I have had the same experience with kinetic pullers as did Dave and I agree with him on it's use. I normally want to save the rifle case so I use my kinetic puller. Pistol cases work fairly well also. I only used the RCBS bullet puller once and was not pleased with the procedure.

Just started using the Hornady cam puller tonight on 40S&W 135gr seated to 1.127, plenty of grip to pull the bullet. Nice, once I get it set up I was pulling about 8-10 per minute without rushing.

Impact pullers are great when a 9mm gets stuck in the 40 case during cleaning.

LOADEDROUND... Forgive me for being ignorant as I don't know.... With the Hornady cam lock unit, you cannot save case? I was thinking about getting one due to I keep breaking the metal jaws in my RCBS hammer and was looking for an alternative. But If I can't save the case, then it is useless to me... I'll be using it on .308

If you do not adjust it properly, I suppose you could damage the case using the hornady cam-lock puller (or any other collet puller for that matter), if the collet clamped down on the case neck instead of the bullet. I've never had that problem, as it is pretty obvious something is wrong before damaging the case. Works great, no damage to bullet or case.

I have the kinetic puller. I haven't used the collets in years. I simply use the press shell holder. Works like a champ. Be careful though, I have heard in another thread that a high primer could be set off by the shell holder if it slips in the shell holder. I therefore am very careful about high primers.
