Any day out shooting clays is a good day! Glad you had a chance to enjoy yourself with two fine Browning shotguns, especially nice work with the 12 gauge shooting trap!

Getting late in the season, one week left in one league, one shoot in the other, and I find myself getting complacent, or sloppy. Yesterday, on my first round, I missed the first two and then the first one at station two. Crap. Ran the rest, then ran all the 20 yard birds. Shot the 16 over to see what I could do and ran them. Should be shooting no less than 48 or 49 at this stage.
Maybe thinking about mortality or philosophic or nature or spiders. Gotta concentrate on each stinking bird. In order.

Shooters in pic look like ours. Average age of club members, 63. Board members, 73. Club formed in 64 and still have three charter members active.

the group I shoot most with go from 82 to the 40,s. we have younger floaters who shoot when the can. we are having trouble getting young shooters tho, we do try to pick up shooters from word of mouth and younger shooters from 4 H and hunter safety courses. but its tough sledding.

Our club has found that the majority of people in the area had no idea that our club was even around. We have been there since the 1940's. It's hard to get people to advertise. The internet has helped the most with places to shoot.

The club I just moved away from has a huge number of members from The Villages; the largest single retirement area in the country. They haven't stopped building new homes for over 25 years. That said, the average age is ~70-75. However, they aren't really doing anything to get new, younger members or females. Every year a few more stop showing up.

Good day shooting. Your club looks a lot like the one I shoot.

I really tried to get into trap. Still shoot it on occasion. Even joined ATA. Problem is, all the matches are shot on Tuesday or Thursday. Since I work full time I cant shoot the events. Haven't shot a registered match in over a year.

As a result I didn't renew the ATA membership and have no plans to shoot any formal trap. I like it fine but the opportunity to join in just isnt there. It didn't help that one of the trap forums I joined wasn't very friendly.

we had to get rid of a few(very few) shooters over the years who just tried to rile many shooters with petty non issues and were told quietly to not come back. no top, just members who didn,t want members chased away by a few malcontent members. you know the ones who know it all and are not afraid to tell you how and why to shoot, belittle others equipment, swearing-trying to drink and not safety minded ect. getting new members is hard enough with out putting up with that crap.

Dont know who top is but that particular forum put a bad taste in my mouth as a trapshooter ;)

I'm sure they are doing fine without me.

?? It sounds like you had a bad experience. Im sorry to hear that. Most clubs in my area host their ATA shoots on Saturdays or Sundays. The people there are extraordinarily friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I think that is the normal with most clubs. I have shot all over the Midwest and South and had nothing but great experiences.
Im sorry to hear you didnt.

Our leagues (non ATA birds, unfortunately) are on Thursday nights, I had to ask to work early; my boss is OK with it, but I can tell he's glad it's almost done. (I'm actually done shooting league rounds for the year, but I forgot to tell him that part. :)) We do have one Sunday a month for both open and leagues, and just had a benefit shoot Saturday where I shot the two most expensive Annie Oakleys of my life. ($10 buy-in, one $10 buy-back if shot out.) Third both times, shot myself out the second one. (TWICE!:fire: ) Had a lot of fun, and SWMBO got to see me shoot some trap.

I think I know which one.

Not at all. It's just that the registered trap shoots are during the weekdays at the club that I shoot at. I'm just not able to shoot on the weekdays. The one time I did get to shoot ATA in a registered match I had a really good time. It was a great experience. I really enjoyed the people there. Really learned a lot too.

I was actually referring to a trapshooters forum.

Yup, that's the one.
I just joined, and posted what I've seen over the years with stuck wads, and some guy on there whose's username is a popular Italian shotgun model for trap jumped on me that my theories about stuck wads were all wrong, wrong, wrong, and that because my post count was 21, I knew nothing. We both are gunsmiths, and he told me guns don't build up plastic down the bore. Really. That's odd, because I've cleaned a lot of it out for customers over the years. Maybe his $10,000 O/U doesn't, but I've cleaned it out of everything from H&R single shots to Benelli Black Eagles.

Plastic wad build up can get really bad in a choke tube to the point that it can present a tighter choke pattern. I have had to use a knife to scrape it out at times.

two of my most used and most liked brownings.

I never liked O/Us or SxSs but that is your choice. My Dad had a Ruger Red Label 12 gauge that he seemed to love but he never shot it well. Maybe it was just for the ease of carry. I shot his Win Model 12 16 gauge field gun much better than he shot his O/U and he was always a bit p***ed about it. Pump/slide action shotguns have always been my favorite.
