a good, inexpensize auto 22?

I just picked up a Walther P-22 yesterday. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I will say, I LOVE the way it feels in my hand. Mine has the 3.4" barrel and the newer "A" suffix magazines. (Magazines with an "A" suffix are supposed to correct the FTF and FTE problems earlier models suffered from).

I'm sure it will compliment my Ruger MKII and S&W Model 17 nicely .....

.22 Magnum Autos

The only two I know of are the AMT Automag II and the Grendel. Both are known for spotty Q.C., but I did have one of the AMTs once upon a time and it was a blast.

The tip up barrel is the make it easier to load unload the pistol, also, tip up the barrel b4 lowering the hammer, no AD's.. I have two of the Berettas; excellent, just make sure that when you load the mag, pull down on spring compression knob, and let it snap up. nose of first round must be pointing upk! watch the way you stick the mag in, so you don't bumb that nose of first round. If you take care with this issue, the Beretta is supremely reliable.

For general use the Ruger has to get the nod. The Browning does work well, but the Ruger works better. The Walther is indeed a nice pistol, but the Ruger has a track record that cannot be beat and at a lower price. The little guns like the Beretta, SMC,etc are a completely different league and while fine for a plink once in a while, don't have the training benefits. Go with the best and you'll never be disappointed.
