Ran into an Type 99 Arisaka locally (West of the Pecos) so I now have a small piece of my mother's side of history purchased!

And I sent out my C&R application finally!

So I figure I have at least a month of waiting and then I can order a K-31, Mosin Nagant 91/30, a Mauser, maybe a Carcano, and a CZ-52 plus any other suggestions! :D

And thanks to this thread, I think it just about sums up a lot of places I need to send a copy.

On a side note, how common have the Arisaka bayonets been? I read about the arsenal markings for the rifle here so I figure I should try to get a matching arsenal bayonet. Has anyone run into a source for bayonets?

Congrats! Looks like the Mon and artillery sites are intact. Do you have the bolt shroud? How about the monopod?

There are lots of Arisaka bayonets for sale in EBAY. Just make sure you get the right one. T38 bayonets will not fit a T99, and most of the Bayos I've seen for sale are T38.

Don't look for any deals on 7.7 ammo, either. Get a set of dies if you plan on firing it much.

I gotta second what Chipperman says about reloading for 7.7 Jap. The only commercial manufacturer is Norma and it sells for $35-$40 per box of 20 rounds. However, after buying dies and a press, you can reload for about 15-20 cents per round.

Sadly, no dust cover or monopod or cleaning rod. I wasn't that lucky, if I find some later, I will get them just to have a "complete" rifle but I will be more focused on getting another variant next.

Yeah, I did see a lot of them on ebay, though I was hoping they wouldn't always be $50 or so, but that's what most of them seem to be going for.

Ammo, ah yes. Grafs has some 7.7 Jap for $20 a box of 20, but is currently out of stock and they haven't responded yet about how long until they would have some available. Either way, I am ordering some Lee dies and brass later this week. I can only wait so long to shoot it! :)

Oh, to be back at West of the Pecos again!!!

Not sure of a quick source for Arisaka bayonets.

I have bought several of them at shows and from misc sources.

$50 isn't too crazy for one.

If you find one in decent condition with a scabbard, I would go ahead and pay $50. Most of the ones I've seen for less the $50 are beat to snot.
