A list of guns for first time shooters...

.22, .32, lightly loaded .38, 9mm, then advance as their recoil tolerance lets them. Some find these boring right off and want more, but many like the slow start and need to work up in recoil.

Don't scare new shooters of any kind off with horrendous muzzle blast and felt recoil for their first experience with handguns.

Honestly, what it sounds like you really need to bring is a friend who has some .22 guns and a stash of ammo.

But... I must agree with those who point out that a .32 revolver loaded with .32 S&W wadcutters is very gentle and also a good intro gun. So for example a single seven chambered in .327 federal.

I would also go along with the idea of not bringing anything that could be described as a snubby or pocket gun. People who don't know guns tend to assume that recoil and noise comes in direct proportion to the size, and many people aren't comfortable holding a heavy object at arms length anyway, so they'll latch onto an airweight snubby because it seems like it should be easier to shoot. Now you faced with one of your guests having a bad time, or an argument that didn't need to happen.
