Thought I'd share this one with everyone. This morning I took two women to the gun range for the first time ever in Texas. Neither had ever shot before and both were actually scared of guns but somehow I talked them to coming out.
Spent about a half an hour over breakfast covering range rules and the four laws of safety and explaining why it's better to keep a weapon than to be completely defenseless.
Then the range.
Both ladies absolutely LOVED walking in the gun store. Steph was more interested in the black evil pistols and marveled at all of the 'assault rifles' on the walls. Kelly on the other hand quickly developed a thing for shiny silvery pistols. (Stainless steel and chrome are her friends it seems)
So both were quite pleased to discover how easy and relatively simple purchasing a new firearm is.
On the range. Both listened and were very attentive and safety concious.
They developed into pretty good shots with .22's very quickly. The handgun target shooting clock guides were invaluable in helping them with improving accuracy and giving them confidence.
Kelly's favorite - Ruger GP-100 loaded with 38's .... first shot cut the X in the target.
Steph's favorite turned out to be the S&W M&P 9mm ... she pretty much did the same thing with it.
After shooting both commented to the rangemaster and manager of the pistol range that they would be back soon and both were excited about buying their own pistols. Of course, I'll be helping them make decent selections (in stainless and blued).
All in all .. two more added to the gun culture. Hooray for our side.
