A little confused on how CMP purchases work...

I'm looking into one of the CMP's surplus Garands. The CMP's site claims that after presenting them with my credentials (including any state related ones i.e. my NJFID since I live in NJ) and payment, they'll ship to me. Don't I have to do it through a FFL if I don't live in the same state? Is there a federal or state law that makes purchases through CMP special?

I live in NJ, as well. Do any NJ residence on this board have experience buying the CMP's surplus rifles?

I'm a little confused about how to buy through the CMP. I have a FFL dealer lined up for transfers if that's what's needed, such as when I buy from a dealer in another state (i.e. through someone who sells on gunsamerica, for instance).

The CMP ships directly to your door via FedEx. The federal law specifically allows them to do that.

Okay, that's what I thought. My question now is this: does New Jersey law allow that as well? Because NJ law is almost always more restrictive than Federal law.

When you fill out the application for the rifle,it must be notorized by a Notary Public.
When they notorize it they are witnessing your statement which says you are of legal state and mind to pocess a rifle under your states local laws and are qualified under Federal guidelines.
Acting as a FFL at that point,and signing off on your application and qualifications.

The CMP ships the rifles directly to your door. After going through the same checks that your local FFL would do.

You can also pick up a rifle at the CMP store at Camp Perry.

They ship you a rifle that you and your fellow countrymen and countrywomen paid tax money for so that you and yours can become better shooters.

(And I really need to point out that John Kerry voted in the past to discontinue funding for the CMP.)

Well aware of that, as well as the rest of Senator Kerry's voting record. This is one citizen who will not be voting for Senator Kerry.
