Anybody else notice those guys on the balcony at about the two-minute mark in the video? They are hanging around outside to watch some CAS (close air support), apparently.

Who else saw a big ol' chunk of debris come about one foot from killing them both :what: ??? Watch closely and just before the cameraman ducks for cover you can see it strike and take a hunk out of the wall right behind them.

Lesson learned: Take CAS seriously

Sgt Sabre...

I actually saw a clip of that in another posting...yeah the debris almost clocks the guys. The other clip (have no idea where it was posted) showed this in slow-mo. Kinda amazing seeing how far the initial "boom" was!

thanks great representaion, and good job.Brings back alot of bad thoughts and reminds me of the many bad times when everything was fine one minute and everything goes to hell in a hurry. But thanks very much, it is good for people to see especially those who don't know what it is like. No way could a video give you a real grasp of the real thing but that was about as good as it gets.

Without Broadband

Difficult to watch on dial-up(hey, out here in the Berks County boonies, DSL doesn't exist and NO I won't go cable[don't ask, ex-AT&T/Com Cast employee]).

Is there anyway to acquire this as a download?

From the looks of what I did view, this is something I would like to save as it has impact, showing what most sources, left & right, just will not generally present. DevLcL, from myself and those of my family and friends that continue to serve, many thanks.

After watching it...

Dude, there are few things in this world capable of making me misty eyed, and that was a perfect example of one of them. What is the background music and was it in black hawk down?

Yes, it's from Black Hawk Down. It's made by a fella named Hanz Zimmer.

Finally Downloaded

DevLcL,

Sorry for the delay on posting my thoughts on the entirety of your short. I finally managed to get to downloading the piece. Powerful and a host of other descriptive adjectives and adverbs, that would actually do little to accomplish what one may feel while watching. Thank you.

To others that have inquired as to the score of DevLcL's short, it is Gortoz A Ran-J'Attends, by Danez Prigent & Lisa Gerrard. I'm not sure on the native language, though here's one hit link on a translation/lyrics search:

Again DevLcL, thanks isn't quite enough.

Thanks to you both for the videos. Makes me wish I could be there, but it was my lot to be a peace time Marine. Thank you all for doing the job right, and God Bless and keep you all safe from harm. A nation that forgets it's warriors will itself someday be forgotten.

Bump! With things getting worse and worse in Iraq I figured we it wouldnt hurt to re-revisit this video.

hm

Was that kid in the little red car a bomber who got stopped and his car disabled? it seemed like he got stuck and blew himself up rather than give up.

have we done anything to piss people off enough to want to blow themselves up rather than surrender?

i don't know about you guys but it would take alot to make me waste myself like that. i guess that i would have had to lost all my family and had nothing left, and the thought of having hords of virgins when i went to heaven would probally be a plus, but still it would be a hard thing to make happen.

Nice Vid, every time I see things like that I choke up. I was literally 1 day away from heading to the recruiter's office when my acceptance for the University of Wisconsin, Madison came in. I decided to go the college route, but I have to admit I always feel guilty for taking that route, when I see these things I feel like I owe my country something, but now with a good job lined up and the girl I'll probably marry lined up, living the 'american dream' seems to be the more logical choice.

To all of you out there who have served, are serving now, and who will eventually serve in our armed forces, I give you a heartfelt thank you. I only wish more people would appreciate what you go through so we can live here the way we do.

Jake

here is a memorial video, that gives you an idea of what it is like when things don't go perfect. I was attached to 2-14IN, and some of these guys were in our unit, 2-14, the 509th etc. some of these guys i was so close to that i will forever have their names tattooed on my body and the memories of them in my mind and the times we shared in my heart. may God bless them and their families!

Does anyone have a link to the original clip of the soldiers on the balcony watching the airstrike?

I have it... somewhere. Give me 24 hours.

Well its been... almost 14 days and I can't find it. So I might not ever be able to find it.

I wish I could tho, thats one hell of a scene isn't it? If you notice there are three guys stading on the balcony in view of the camera. The soldier on the far right ducked in time but the other two guys just got extremely lucky!
