I participated in a charity trap shoot today, the Shoot for the Cure, to raise money for breast cancer research. Of course there were raffles. One bucket I tossed a couple tickets into was for some "shootin" stuff and included, no kidding, a "handloaded" box of "factory" 9 mm ammunition.
Sure hope I win.

We had 37 squads of five shooters each. Seven trap fields busy from nine to noon plus. Central IL. Great club, Peoria Skeet and Trap. Been shooting there since about 1980.

Holy bonkers! I'm in the wrong place to shoot trap, but then again I'd probably go broke if I had those kinds of events around here. Lately I feel lucky if 3 or 4 people show up to our gun club on Saturdays.

This Saturday not a soul turned up, I have the keys to the trap house but I don't feel it's worth my time and effort to set up just to shoot alone. At least one other person is needed for me to feel like I'm accomplishing something and my regular Saturday shooting buddy, the guy who turned up every Thurs and Saturday without fail had a heart attack this past winter and is on the mend. He's 81 years old and is an excellent teacher/shoot'n buddy. He's a state handicap champ and I was hoping to do some more shooting with him. Time will tell if I even get to shoot with him again.......

Glad to hear your event went well and hope you guys raised a ton of money, it's a great cause. Good for you guys. I wish we had that around here. Just doesn't seem to be enough people, everybody I shoot with (6-7 fellers) are all in their 70's and 80's, been shooting at the club since before I was born. I feel like a square peg, lol. I tell everybody I know who's into guns about the weekly trap shoots, nobody ever turns up. It's a shame.

My big boss sponsored a 4- man trap shooting team at a charity trap shooting event last weekend, the fee was $1,000.00 per team.

I was at a race with my daughter so I couldn’t attend, but I loaned one of the guys my 1100 Trap so he could shoot.

The team didn’t place but they had a great time. My buddy who used my Remington said he had so much fun said he is going to buy a shotgun and start shooting trap with his wife .

Stay safe.

The Cancer research event is and has been an annual event at PSTC and seems to grow each year.
What I was concerned about was the "hand loaded" "factory" ammunition. Seems to be an oxymoron.

I've always wanted to learn to shoot trap but am mostly an introvert and don't know anyone else who does. Sounds like a grand time.

I'm an introverted person too. Stress drives me away from people but I decided it was something I wanted to do and everybody has to have an outlet, something they like to do and I forced myself to show up to a shoot and initially it's a lil uncomfortable to show up to an established group, especially if they're not in your demographic and potentially make a fool of yourself doing something you've never done before.

It's a process for me, I'm no social butterfly but by and large the guys you meet at those things can be a lil standoffish or gruff at first but it don't take long to get to know people and start shooting good, it's all in fun. I hope you make it out to a shoot, I bet the guys will be helpful and more than happy to pass on the knowledge. The guys on here who shoot trap are great along with the guys from the club to tap their knowledge now and then....

Coming out of lurkdom briefly to say, this is a valuable point of view.

In 1993 President Clinton convinced me I needed an AR-15.

I read on the Internet that if one shot a rifle match and sent the match bulletin to CMP, one could buy an M1 Garand from them.

Long story short, I went to a local match full of doubt and trepidation, did not post the absolute lowest score of the day, received some friendly informal coaching, and have been hooked ever since.

Shoot for the Cure sounds like a wonderful idea, and it is indeed a good cause, so congratulations!

Peoria Skeet and Trap Club is open Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, throws a million or more birds a year and has a spring youth program, open houses, dealer "try it", days, leagues of all kinds (trap, skeet, combo), hosts a state skeet shoot, and has many helpful coaches, some NRA certified. It isn't my " home club" but I've been a member since the 80s and shoot summer league and fall combo (skeet and trap) along with my son and several members of my home club (River Valley Sports men's Club, 42 years).
Google trap clubs in your area, go to one, listen to the old timers (unless they "know it all") and, even in these days of ammo and component shortages, you will have fun. Doesn't hurt your wing shooting at all, either.
