I was just in the loading room taking a look at my new BE-86 and trying different measures with it. Very consistent weights indeed, then I noticed something I haven't seen mentioned about this powder before.
Has anyone noticed the yellow (golden, if you prefer) dots in this powder? I saw these yellow dots, rubbed my eyes, and saw yellow dots. Then went upstairs to verify that I had taken my evening meds (yes) and went back down and took another look at the powder. No mistaking it, there are yellow dots in BE-86. :)

At first I thought oh no something wasn't totally clean but I looked in the bottle and it was the same in the scale pan. Whew. :uhoh:

Trouble with that is the 700-X has always had yellow flakes/dots in it. Along with a black and yellow label---even when in the old metal canisters. Sure you were not looking at one of those salamanders with the yellow dots that is coming out of hibernation around here about now?:D

splattergun,
What you are seeing are the flash suppressant flakes which are added to help moderate the muzzle blast of the high energy powder.
They are added by design, and factored into the ballistics of the lot, so all is good.
Shoot well,
Paul

Paul ...

I for one ...am glad you are a member here ... this information along with all the information you have shared ... really has help getting some things that would otherwise be chewed and churned ... the word straight from the horses mouth ... keeps down a lot of "mis information" .... Thanks again...

Holy Toledo I hope not. Last thing I need is DIF&W declaring my reloading bench a vernal pool. But I don't have any 700-X so I ought to be able to convince them to go away.

I am glad that someone connected with a manufacturer is willing to take the time to help explain what is going on to keep misinformation at bay. I always wondered about the "dots" in the various propellants and assume the others are like ingredients.

Had no doubts about it's design or potential, Paul. And thanks for jumping in. I use Red Dot, too. It simply was a small surprise, as I hadn't heard of the colored flake factoid! I'm looking forward to putting this stuff through the paces.

Paul, please have your company step up production of BE 86 so my LGS will have it ins stock, and I don't have to pay those crazy hazmat and shipping fees !

I tried BE-86 for 45 acp with 200gr plated it will not replace Bullseye, W-231 or VV n340 for me.
I plan to start loading for 9x19 and think BE-86 fill be a good fit.
