Picked up a pair of old 5 screw Smith's yesterday first one is a 4" M&P from 1951 in excellent condition a little muzzle wear but hardly a line on the cylinder all #'s match. Second gun is 1948 one line K-22 Target Masterpeice all matching #'s this one is pretty rough lite pitting not much blue left on the barrel. Thinking this may be a candidate for a reblue not sure yet may just shoot it and not worry about it.

The M&P looks great and is a nice find. The K-22, while also a sweet addition, could probably do with a bit of cosmetic assistance given its current condition. Let us know how both of them shoot.

I would definitely restore the K22. It looks like it could be made to look like new by the right person.

Like new is nice but then????

I have some nice like new guns which just sit in a safe.
As nice as the look I am hesitant to shoot them. So I lean more to the shooters which are guilt free and more useful for me. Each to his own though.
I have an nu fired Armalite Sterling Ar 180 with everything but the box. Invoice manual , sling and magazines. After recovering from my pending surgical rebuild I may just break it in. It has been calling to me for a long time now. "SHOOT ME PLEASE."
Nice finds Mike.

I would leave the K-22 as is. The early post-war K-22s are very collectable and one with honest wear has a lot more history and charm than the 99% condition safe queens. I would enjoy shooting it and adding to its storied history.
