A plan so diabolically evil that Lex Luthor wouldn't have thought of it.

Well, I saw that other thread about the Chinese Army's new weapons.

That got me to thinking.

China has a past CHOCK FULL of ripping off other people's ideas. Cars, computers, musical instruments, toys (though the American designs didn't call for lead in the paint), and clothing... all produced without license to the American or other countries' companies that have developed the tech themselves. The firearms industry is no exception. Anyone who is on this board enough knows that China has copied weapons including the AR-15, M14, Remington 870, and the M1911, among others. Of course, no licensing fees are paid to any of the companies that developed the weapons and had to spend money on R&D and tooling to bring them to production.

While watching the video posted on the other thread, I noticed that some of the weapons that China had made seemed to be under evaluation by Western militaries. That got me to thinking... if the weapons, or at least their blueprints, are in Western nations... why not make some money off of them?

Here's the plan. We start up a company that makes semi- auto versions of their army weapons. Call it our own design, and chamber it in common Western calibers.

We then make an account for paying licensing fees. We then cease to buy toilet paper for the factory and office, and use the "licensing fee" money for TP.

Some might call it evil. Some might call it vindictive. Some others may even dare venture into deeper vocabulary and call it petty.

Do I care what they think?

Nah.

Who's in?

China can do that because their government doesn't care what you do as long as they get some of the take. In this case, they get all the take (because they are doing it).
We can't because we have a society that protects people from fraud, even governments that don't protect their citizens.
I say we just make better guns and sell them for cheaper, thus depriving them of the market share.
Who cares if we lose money? We're beating the Chinese!

Since they stole the designs for their weapons from some western manufacturer, we'd be open to law suit from those companies.

Copying a Norinco M14 is still copying a Springfield M14.

Not the stuff they copied off of us... the stuff they make themselves, like the Type 03.

It seems to me that the patents on most of the stuff we're accusing them of copying have already run out. The AR15 was developed about 50 years ago, the 1911 nearly 100 years ago, the M14 is 50+ years old and the Remington 870 nearly 60 years old.

Patents are generally only good for 20 years.

Doesn't Colt still have the rights to the M4 design?

Probably, but you change a little here and a little there and call it something else and there's nothing that can be done about it. It's not like the M4 is a radical departure from past designs. It's basically a CAR15 with a 6 position stock and a railed fore end.

it would be nice to have them start importing some of their knock-offs. Alot of them are actually well-made and about 30% cheaper than the guns they stole the design from :p

so when an american company builds something that is past its patent, its "a clone" but when another company does it its "ripp offs"

exactly. just like how its unethical for us to outsource to other countries while we sit here and make a yearly trade surplus in the substantial billions from other countries outsourcing to us. God bless America:cool:

The American made SKS carbine ---

$1200 and most of them wouldn't work.

The only appeal of CHicom guns is the fact that they are made by slave labor within a controlled econony. That's why they are cheap.

JTR

what are they gonna do about it? not a dang thing until they get a navy big enough to pass by ours. lets rip em off

how is this ripping them off?! they have 0 market for military weapons in the US. which is the only place these weapons would sell. and we can never compete on the price level they do on the international market

it doesn't take any money out of their pocket. some one already snaged the Norinco name here in the US and the name is more important than the design, with the price being more important than both
