I had no intention of buying a gun today. Went with a buddy to a pawn shop, he was picking up a gun he had on layaway. Somehow I ended up with a new friend.

Yes...I know this old pony is a nag. Dirty. Rust on the barrel. No blue on the handle or inside the trigger guard.

Other than a good cleaning and changing the world's cheesiest grips I think she is is going to work out.

Why did I open the stable for the nag?

She has a trigger that almost rivals my Diamondback and Python. Locks up tight. Clean bore.

Besides...I paid $225 out the door.

And everyone needs a "beater".

Caballito con queso?

Nah... I kind of like those grips; period items sort of like shag carpet, but on that little pony are gilt on a lily. Nice pistol, incredible price these days, especially from a hock shop. Congrats!

Revolving

There was nothing clever. Buddy was doing his paperwork on a gun he had on layaway and I saw this in the case for 265. I would have considered it a win at that.

Asked the fellow about it and he said "I've got some room on that one".

There was no great negotiating. Just asked him "what can you do?" and he said 225 and he would eat the tax.

The photos do not show the rust on the muzzle so she is NOT anywhere near perfect which is fine with me. Action is great, locks up tight.

I do disagree with Maj Dad and think that the grips have to go. Although "Caballito con queso?" meaning "cheesy horse" was pretty funny (thanks Major)

There is a gun show this weekend so maybe some beat up old original grips can be had.

The problem is that I spent the money that I was going to buy a Police Positive with. Guess I have to find another 225...:D

Really nice find Guillermo!

You stopped by there on the right Day.

Sounds like a cool Pawn Shop in general for them to have such a nice attitude.

Ya know, this wuold be a good one for gatting a root stub of 'Stag' and making some actual Stag Stocks for.

That'd be a nice little project for a really nice little Snubulator.

That little Pony has been rode hard & put up wet, but with some TLC at "Guillermo's Place" will be a great shooter again ... nice find

Great find and even greater deal. She should clean up just fine. I also agree with you; those "stag" grips have got to go. Hope you find some nicer grips at the gun show.

Thanks guys.

It was really just luck.

As FogHornl said, she has been "rode hard and put up wet" but what the heck. 225 for any decent gun is pretty cheap, cosmetic issues or not. I have to admit that I kind of like the whitish grey where the blue is totally gone. Makes me think there is a story or two to tell.

I am not really a fan of light snubs but if I don't like shooting it I can always trade it off.

It is also nice that to have found a deal. I read about my fellow THR members walking in at just the right time and get jealous. Guess it was my time.

Am planning on cleaning up the rust and getting some new grips. Will post pics when I do.

I think that Colts have reached numerical parity with the Smiths in the house.

I must say I am in the minority here because I love those grips. I am even considering a set for my 2.5in Python.....but they are real Stag...are those real stag? Nevermind, they look like plastic.

BTW, Oyeboten is absolutely correct when he says that the attitude of the shop was great. National Pawn in Georgetown Texas on the southeast corner of Austin Ave & US 29.

Great! I definitely would've walked out with that little booger for $225. Believe it or not, some folks actually collect those cheap Franzite faux-stags.

It is a good day...I learned something new. Didn't know what Franzite was until you posted.

After I get some replacements I will be glad to send them to someone who has an interest.

Great deal! Hard to imagine a better snubbie for that price. With nearly every DA Colt on its way to becoming a collector's item it's great to be able to own one that you can use exactly as it was intended with fussing over scratches and wear.

Drove past that place on the weekend

if you would have stopped the old girl would be in your safe :D

Shear...I was looking for a DS instead of a Cobra but I wanted a "beater".

I have some LNIB guns and I love them, but having a gun that I don't have to worry about is great.

This weekend I am going to clean her up...some of the rust is "brass brush bad".

BTW, I have never had a gun with such bad rust. Any tips are appreciated.

the old girl looks a little better with some wooden furniture.

BTW, she shoots like a champ. Very accurate. Having a beater is a good thing.

Also, if anyone would like those Franzite grips, send me a PM and I will drop them in the mail for you. You might get them in time for Christmas!!!

My little '51 Cobra is a regular carry for me. Well worn, lots of gray, means I can carry it whenever I want. I like shooters.

The other night I was going to coach my basketball team and had to lock the gun in my car (in Texas CCL holders can carry onto the school campus, but not the building)

It felt great to have a really good sidearm that is not so pricey. ( would have been worried all night if I had my normal daily carry, 2.5 inch Diamondback, locked in the car )

BTW, my guys played really well and we stomped the competition. Is the victory because of the Cobra? Well...no...but I was able to concentrate.

I have a Colt Detective and it's a great revolver but I would just love to have the lighter Cobra.

A good revolver doesn't have to be pretty to do a good job, I wouldn't worry about that revolvers looks as long as it shoots well. It's called character lol... I think it looks just fine!

the grips are gone.

a fellow actually WANTED them for use on a gun...not just to see that they were properly destroyed

seems like a normal guy other than his love of cheezy grips

:neener:
