I once had grips on another revolver that looked exactly like the ones that came on your Cobra - and I thought they were great. :what:

But I was only 14 at the time. :D

As you have discovered, it's sometimes nice to have a handgun that is mechanically perfect, has bright chamber(s) and bore, but isn't cosmetically so good that you hate to carry it. Unless it's a safe queen, finish is the last thing you need to consider, but because most of the general public buy used guns on the basis of how they look, not how they work, the seller was having a problem moving it and was undoubtedly delighted to stick you with it.

So sometimes being as dumb as you are is an advantage... :neener:

Hey now...don't be labeling me "normal", you'll tarnish my rep!

Thanks again Guillermo. As soon as I find that 1956 Cobra, I'll post it up with the grips so ya'll can enjoy gazing upon them again.

Old Fuff - I have another cheesy grip set, round butt with the little wrap around piece at the bottom. I couldn't figure out what they fit until I found one of your old posts last night. So now I have to search for a second issue too. You guys are expensive! :D

I like my Cheezy Stags

It carries better, and I think it looks cool, not really cheezy! BTW, this is my daily carry gun....and is perfect!

You did good on that little pony...

It is a fine carry gun and a real bargain. Have fun with it.

Naw... All ya' have to do is get one of those old full-size-handle guns and a hacksaw...

Actually I've seen it done, but haven't done it myself - although I sometimes think about it. The revolver I inspected was an old Police Positive with a 5" barrel, and well enough along to have no collector's value. The owner was tired of trying to find the older slab-style of stocks that he liked.

The "modification" was done with a milling machine, not a hacksaw. Refinishing was unnecessary, and Diamondback stocks worked for him. Since there is nothing mechanical in the lower part of the handle no problems developed.

I wouldn't do this to one of my own better revolvers, but if I was to get one that belonged to Guillermo... well .............. :D

but if I was to get one that belonged to Guillermo...

:what:

on the other hand...maybe Old Fuff should Fitz the Cobra...hmmmmm....

The alloy would probably be too bendable for the trigger guard. But if there was ever a gun that you didn't mind chopping up, this is it.

Hey Rancher, I didn't identify you as the recipient of the grips. Having those cheesy things would do more to harm your rep than being called "normal". :neener:

Dropped them in the mail yesterday so they should be there Friday or Saturday.

I don't know... the Police Positive I mentioned was O.K. from a mechanical perspective when I got done with it, and the chambers and bore were fine, but only about 5% of the original finish was left.

I only know of one Fitz-modified Cobra, and it belonged to a senior Inspector in the New York City Police Department. Apparently it worked for him.

Before you chop anything aluminum, consider if or how you're going to refinish it. :uhoh:

if or how

I kind of like the "beater" look so I wouldn't refinish it.

While I am interested in "Fitzing" in the end I probably never will because I don't pocket carry. From belt holster I do not see enough (or any) advantage.

Drooling over the Diamondbacks...

I think the bites from my Cobras have turned into a full-blown snake addiction.

Whoops! So I gave myself up, didn't I? :D
