I once had grips on another revolver that looked exactly like the ones that came on your Cobra - and I thought they were great.
But I was only 14 at the time.
As you have discovered, it's sometimes nice to have a handgun that is mechanically perfect, has bright chamber(s) and bore, but isn't cosmetically so good that you hate to carry it. Unless it's a safe queen, finish is the last thing you need to consider, but because most of the general public buy used guns on the basis of how they look, not how they work, the seller was having a problem moving it and was undoubtedly delighted to stick you with it.
So sometimes being as dumb as you are is an advantage...
