Hello high road, i have a question about the glock 20 , and the 10mm round. I have several firearms, including two glock 45's (g21SF/pic rail&g30) and 12 gauge maverick, and a savage 30-06, (that this site has advised me on customizing, thank you very much), i really think each weapon has its place, G30/G21sf interchangeably for carry, 12 gauge for HD, 30-06 for hunting and range work, but i have been hooked on the glock 20 for some odd reason, maybe because it's a firearm:rolleyes:,but what role/niche would the glock 20 in 10mm serve, i plan on getting into hunting once i get to Fort Lewis, Washington, and the army lets me:D,i have read it makes a decent woods gun, just what do some of the owners here use theirs for? all info welcomed, thanks for the help in advance. :)

For hunting, you can buy a longer barrel to get better velocity from the G20. Aside from that, I've found adding a heavier recoil spring when using full power 10mm loads seems to make the G20 more managable. I had one for awhile and it worked 100% and was very accurate. Nothing really bad to say aside from the price of 10mm ammo can be high if you plan on doing alot of shooting with it.

Let's see,

16 rounds of the most versatile auto cartidge ever, with loads from 135 grs. up to 220 grs., in a mangeable & reliable, albeit ugly, pistol, with accessories available up the wazoo.....

Naw, nothing to recommend it, sorry.:p

Actually, I haven't had my G20 for very long, and while I'm still debating on whether to reduce the grip frame (the very thing that held me back from getting one for so long), I do really appreciate the pistol. I'm also thinking about acquiring a Mec-Tec unit which will convert it into a 16-1/4"(?) carbine, as well as a barrel in .40 S&W to shoot up a bunch of ammo I have sitting around.

It's a high-capacity, powerful, auto pistol that will serve you very well from self-defense (people-type predators), to hunting, to IPSC & IDPA etc., to self-defense (animal-type predators).

One thing I've never liked about the 20/21 was the thick grip. Now that Glock has the 21sf with the thinner frame, I'm wondering if there could be a retrofit of the slim frame over the the 10mm platform. It would definatly make me get another one if they could.

what role/niche would the glock 20 in 10mm serve

Pretty much any role you'd want it to, I would wager, especially if you load your own. From plinking to self-defense to hunting various types of game, the 10mm is quite versatile. Not only that, but the Glock 20 itself is also quite versatile; you can get barrels for .40 S&W, .357 Sig and 9x25 Dillon, which is the 10mm cartridge necked down to fit 9mm bullets. (I've never shot that round, but I 'magine it's a real hellcat.) It'd be like getting 4 guns in one, that's hard to beat. :D

I love mine. Anchored a 300lb wild boar with one well placed shot out of it.

Ammo can be a bit high but besides that (and the somewhat large grip) it's a great weapon and a great platform for the 10mm!

I cut the grip of mine down to a G29 mag with a finger extension. It took about an inch off of the grip and now I carry it everyday and intend to use it for hunting with my Double Tap 200 grain LFN @ 1,300 fps. This made a huge difference and it now conceals well on my 5'9" 160 lb. frame in a CompTac Slide. I can obviously still put in a 15 round mag when open carrying.

It is the .357 mag of auto pistols except it has much greater ammo capacity, doesn't rust, and is thinner. It is truly the do everything gun.

Concealed carry... check.
Home defense... check.
Hunting... check.
