A question about selling my Kimber

I bought a Pro Carry11 SS in November 02. I really like this gun, it shoots well and all. However, I think that I would like to go with more of a full sized 1911 and not the 4" bbl. So, I'm thinking of selling this.

My questions regard the laws for selling guns through a source like Gunbroker.com. How does the fact that I am not a FFL holder affect this? Here in MD, there isn't any adverstising through the newspapers, so its either word of mouth or a friend, I guess. I know that I need to report this sale to the police dept as the gun is registered in my name.

A trade in at the gun shop isn't really in the cards, as I would take too much of a hit on the price.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Online Gun Sales

You need not be an FFL to sell on the internet, only the buyer must have the gun shipped through an FFL.

You would complete the transaction with the buyer, at which time the buyer would go to his FFL with your name, address, etc. The FFL will then mail you an ink signed copy of the actual license, and you could take the packaged gun with the FFL to Fedex, and ship the gun to the FFL's address. The buyer then goes to his FFL to have his background check done and pick up his firearm.

I am thinking that $750 will be lower than what is advertised on www.gunbroker.com. I would also throw in a Dillon black holster that is for this type...plus the shipping costs.

Some FFL holders will not participate in a transaction through the mail unless they are receiving an item from another FFL holder.

You need to decide how you are going to ship it and state that clearly in your ad. It will avoid the hassle of selling it and then finding it will cost you more to ship it than you thought.

$750.00 sounds like a lot for a used one. I am not sure what they retail for, but if you paid $800.00 for it, the first range trip reduced it's value by at least a hundred bucks. The holster may be good quality, but it is not worth much unless you want it real bad. There is a NIB Pro Carry II HD offered on Auction Arms right now for $769.00 (buy it now option, with free shipping). Not sure how that compares with your gun or prices in your state.

I know...guns, cars, wives and daughters...and lets not forget pets!

I guess that I am worried about the alum frame going kaput in 10,000 rounds.

Do you think that Kimber will sell a frame replacement?

Not sure about the frame replacement question. I have the same concern with my Kimber Compact CDP. Never read complaints of them breaking, so I don't worry too much.

My shop has a Pro-Carry rental with around 12K rounds through it, and it is still a gem. I've got 2 personal Kimbers with the Alum frame, one with around 7K rounds through it, and it still shoots like the day I got it. You just have to remember to change the recoil spring on it every 2-3K rounds.

I suggest you keep it and buy a second, fullsize Kimber.
