A question about the Sig P226 Legion.

Perusing Gunbroker I see the 226 Legion with wide fluctuations for pricing. I'm looking for a back-up to my daily CCW, a Sig P226 Legion.

On Sig's website, their specs column says stainless slide with Cerakote finish. Is that the case with all Legions?

It is now. The first batch were PVD or whatever they call it. I think the original finish looks better but apparently the Cerakote wears better. I hate Cerakote on my guns so haven’t bought a Legion.

I'm confused. You already have a P226 Legion, from what you posted. Can't you draw conclusions from that?

My EDC is also a Sig Legion, although the P229 RX version. I couldn't tell you if it's PVD or Cerakote. I bought it shortly after Sig switched the coatings. But it is showing little to no wear, so whatever it is, I'm happy with it.

I wish they offered a version without the rail and without the optics cut and with the 15 round magazines and without the fancy grips.

They could call it the Sig P226.

But I'm in my 80s and my P226 is only a little over 30 years old so it's likely that it will outlast me but a "OH New Shiny" would be tempting.

The non-Legion 226 would be missing the trigger polishing/enhancements and bigger undercut. Also would be missing some other stuff. But if those things don't have value to a person, the normal P226 is a great gun also.

Exactly. The only Sig stock triggers with which I've had any issues were on the two P290RS I owned and there it was a resonance in the triggers. Also, I can see where a higher undercut might be worthwhile in a competition handgun but not for general SD distance purposes or plinking type range days. I did also have a hard time shooting my P225 as accurately as my other Sigs owned at the same time but the trigger was fine.

What other stuff does the 'Legion' offer?

If what you're looking for is a backup to a P226 Legion you already have then it would seem that an older P226 in good condition would be a good option. I don't remember when I got mine but it was over 15 years ago, possibly 20. Mine is the P226 Navy. It has a very smooth trigger with a 9# DA pull and a 3.25# SA pull. It has been through a lot of IDPA matches and the finish is in excellent condition.

Far as I understand:
Undercut trigger guard (which is very nice and should be added to all P226es)

Checkered frontstrap

Non annoying beavertail

SRT trigger internals

Abbreviated P224 slide lock lever

Nice, grippy G10 grips

Excellent high vis night sights

New gray/green finish

Legion logo top of slide

Nice case and a shiny coin!

The logo and finish and coin I don’t care about but all the rest is very nice and well thought out.

Night sights are nice. Never understood the need for a beavertail on a P series Sig. SRT might be of interest but again, not something I'd want on a SD or plinking pistol.

Why not? It just improves the reset in single action. It’s not necessarily lighter. Just better in every way.

It shortens reset, not improves reset. Those are two different things.

In SD situations I prefer a longer, heavier trigger pull over lighter ones. In high stress I don't want things to be so easy that a shot gets unintentionally fired.

They had pretty much just that, offered for a bit a few years ago.

The older ones will have the gray PVD finish, looks chalky when dry and has the wear properties of chalk as well.
The newer Cerakote ones have a greenish tint.

Ummmm. Where are these colors and finishes coming from. Mine is as black as can be and the finish has stood up very well.

The ones sold to the general public are the gray PVD and the gray Cerakote.
LE and first responders can get a black one with the regular Nitron.
Which is applied by PVD, just a much better material than whatever the gray is.

That's close. The grips and back strap were ugly but hopefully that would have been an easy cured issue.

Four screws and swap the grip panels out.
I don't like the Legion panels, they don't follow the undercut on the frame and look off.
I swapped them out with P226 Allround grips with a normal slide lock lever.
