A question for XD owners

How far does your slide retract when you don't engage the grip safety first? I am just curious about the consistency across samples since I seem to be able to sight check the chamber of my 4" bi-tone when I don't have a proper grip, but handling a subcompact at the store the other day, the slide barely moved backwards at all when I pulled on it with the grip safety disengaged.

Pulling with maximum force, my slide retracts just shy of half a 9mm round visible in the chamber with the grip safety disengaged. Is mine typical or is the subcompact I looked over?

My 4" service model retracts like your 4" does, not like sub compact you sampled

My 4" and 5" both move about .7", measured at the back of the slide.

With a round in the chamber it looks about like what you described. Both are. 40.

My subcompact moves 3/8" with the grip safety engaged. Definitely sounds like less than the full-size models.
