XD Barrel Problem/Question

I'm fairly new to handguns and just purchased a Springfield XD Subcompact in 9mm.

I was checking it out and was going to clean it before I fired it. I noticed that when the slide is pulled back the barrel tips upward. I took it apart, put it back together and it still does it.

Is this typical of the XD? What's wrong?

Normal operation.

With autos the barrel has to 'unlock' and pivot down some to help allow slide movement.

It's normal, the weapon is designed to work that way. Just about every semiautomatic bigger than a .380 works in a similar fashion.
