a question of range etiquette...

I think you are very lucky to have a pres. that will allow rapid fire and hollering. the local range wont let us even think about shooting more than one round per 30 seconds. so we drive an hour to the good range when my friend is gone being a marine. usuialy we shoot at his property and do what we want.

ok, again, the only neighbor in earshot was my aunt, who is actually a bit moffed over what he said too....

also, THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE AT THE CLUB, no one to disturb, I'm getting the feeling you guys think I would have acted that way no matter what, but like I said, we were the only ones there, there was no one else to bother.

also, I dont really mind having the reputation for being a weirdo, because, well, I am a weirdo.

no matter what are opinions are , you are not going to change your thinking (we know you were the only one at the range and your Aunt is the neighbor) You see no wrong sooooo lets move on !!!!!!!

Ziadel,

I get the distinct impression you had a range official who was quite concerned when he heard all that rapid firing immediately followed by hooting and hollering. It is quite possible that this rather unorthodox behavior on a (private or public firearms range that is open either to memers or to the public) had him concrened. One of his concerns may well have been that someone had just been shot therefore the hooting and holering asfter the shoting. maybe he thought there was even a shootout. He then has the unmitigated audacity or should I just not be sarcastic and say what I am really thinking - he was concerned enough and was brave enough to check this out. When he arrives he probably realizes that all is ok. He asks about the shooting and hollering to be certain all is ok, and not wanting to seem like a worrying old ninny or fool he adds on that a neighbor of the range called in a silly complaint (that may have been based on his actual initial fear of someone being injured). Then he immediately says this was a joke because he does not really want to lie. Of course I could have it all wrong, maybe he was just being humourous because he was nervous over how to handle a situation where grown men had firearms and were hooting and hollering like a bunch of maniacal wildmen - maybe he felt humor the best way to keeps things calm as he approached an uncertain situation. If you find this range official's actions, or statements, are in any way offensive put yourself in his shoes as being responsible for what goes on at the range and then having to investigate the scene as you described it. He may not have the people handling skills of a public relations expert but, I think he took the responsibility of properly responding to and investigating what many may believe to have been rather irresponsible behavior on the part of you and your friends.

I think it pretty audacious on your part to be upset with anything the range official did. The only really questionable behavior at the range that day seems to be that of you and your friends. Had you not acted the way you did, no one would have come to check it out in the first place. Please do not bother responding that no one else was at the range. It does notmatter if there was a hundred other shooters there, if there were 50 neighbors nearby, or not. You actions were what mattered. Your actions were, in my opinion, irresponsible. All factors considered as you described them - that is it plain and simple.

Hi All-

Hootin' and hollerin' while shooting firearms is silly and immature behavior that can occasionally be attributed to alcohol consumption. I'm betting that the Range President doesn't particularly care whether the dear sweet aunt is the neighbor, anyway.

It is my belief that he successfully used humor and restraint in a good way to inform some kids to knock it off with the shouting and to also determine if any drinking was taking place.

Simply Put

We need to Follow The Rules regardless.

Ever been in the country..on a flat stretch..stopped at a red light.. remote intersection with nothing for miles. Go ahead and stop. We all need to consistantly follow the safety rules..lest a slip up spell disaster.

Who knows? There could always be a LEO lurking..and down comes the hammer!

Take Care
