Gun range/Club rates

It sure is! It's even worse for those who actually live within the NYC limits as they are subject to even stricter ownership and carry restrictions.
Yep. a NYC permit is good only inside NYC and meaningless outside of NYC. There are less than a dozen ranges for 8 million citizens and NONE of them have any parking for your car. Just the way they want it......

Based on the description of your situation, I'd be happy with what you have. A couple of years ago I tried to "join" a local club. There was a $40 application fee, and then you had to attend so many meetings and work at least 100 hours within the year you applied in order to be eligable to be voted on for membership.... provided that there was an "opening" because membership was limited to a given number and an existing member had to die or resign in order for you to become eligable. Then after all of that there was a fee of $100 a year and an additional amount of fund raising. Well, I managed to fill in all of the requirements, even managed to get in over 500 hours of volunteer time, but in the process, I came to the realization that my tolerance for drunks wasn't as great as I thought it was. Told them what I thought about their drunks, especially the pet board member drunks, at one of the monthly meeting where, of course they served free beer, offered them 20K to get rid of the drunks and the beer, and walked out. Never heard from them again.

So fast forward to today.... Tried to go to a range today. The first range I tried -- $21 a hour or you can buy a membership for x dollars per week -- was an indoor range at a local gun shop. It's a fairly nice range and until today, I considered it the safest of the nearby indoor ranges. Well, I went in to check out the situation and was a little concerned. There were three pairs of guys shooting in three lanes next to each other, even though there were plenty of open lanes. The RO on duty had bullet holes in his name tag that he was wearing as well as his shirt. I think that was supposed to be funny. But he was also so large that he had trouble squeezing into the shooting positions to clean up all the empty cases and garbage after people left. If that alone didn't cause me to have doubts, just then a 20ish guy who looked and was dressed exactly like "Yosemite Sam" came in, signed in and began blasting away with his two "six guns." Do you have any idea what black powder cartridges do in an indoor range? I love the smell of black powder in the morning but I left while I could still find the door.

Then I went to an outdoor range owned and operated by the state dept. of natural resources -- $25 a year, I think. It was closed due to "whether." Yea, I guess it was "whether" the guys who run it wanted to work today or not.

The third and final stop was a range that is part of a chain of ranges -- $25 a hour, I think. Went in again to check things out and found two guys on two lanes blasting away with 12ga. shotguns. So, I left there too. Where did you say your range was?

$200 initiation fee then $350/year. $100 less if over 65. It's a full service outdoorsman club with a 300 yard rifle range and a 50 yard pistol range. Skeet, 5-stand, and 2 Sporting clays courses. A lake and trout stream for fishing. There is camping and a clubhouse for meetings and special events.

There is limited archery only hunting on the property with the opportunity to rifle hunt an adjoining hunting club. I can pay $5 each visit to shoot the rifle and pistol ranges, or pay $25/year extra. I pay the extra $25 with my yearly dues.

That's more expensive than a lot, it is on the opposite side of the county and I have to drive through town to get there. About 20 miles but closer to a 40 minute drive. But they offer a lot and I often have the rifle/pistol range to myself. Most of our members are into the shotgun games.

I pay $60 for my range in Minnesota and $100 for my range across the border in Wisconsin.
Both are outdoor ranges out to 300 yards with multiple bays.
The MN range is up on top of the bluffs, nice breezes on hot days.
The WI range is down in the valley with a lot of pine trees, a good place to shoot when it’s cold.

To join is $120 year + $7 per hour. Or, $10 per hour as guest. Scope sight in area, Pistol range @ 15 yds., Rifle range, Shotgun range, 22 of any kind / and any Pistol at varying distance range, Tactical range, with coming hatchet throwing and bow range. All outdoor.
I do the $10 as guest because I only go about once per month for one hour or so.

Hi...
I have memberships in two local gun clubs.
The initiation fee for one club was $100(IIRC), 40-45 years ago when I joined with a $20 yearly due. That has recently increased to $30 per year. As a lifetime member over 65 with 30+ years membership, I no longer pay dues. I do make a yearly monetary contribution to that club.
The other club had s $100 initiation fee several years ago when I joined with a $50 yearly dues payment.
My son who turns 30 in a few days, became an adult member of the first club when he turned 18. He held a junior membership prior to that. No initiation fee for him because of that but he will pay dues until he is 65.
He is also a member at the second club.
Both clubs have rifle ranges from 50 to 200 yds with multiple covered positions and 7 to 25 yard handgun ranges with multiple covered positions. The first club restricts targets to paper only with one steel plate at 200yds on the rifle range and 5 or 6 small steel plates at 25yds. They do allow shooting clay birds on the handgun range berm.
The second club allows any target you wish to use as long as you clean up whatever debris afterwards.
The first club is the only one with a range set up for shooting clay birds with shotguns.

The range I use is just west of Daytona Beach. It's a county run range with 7-100 yrd. backstops. It has very good stations and its run very well by the range officers. No shotgun and no rapid fire allowed. You can collect brass from in front of the stations. The fee is either $10.00 a day or $100.00 for an annual pass. It's not a Fish and Game Club or Rifle and Pistol Club. Those clubs down here don't interest me. Too many people and fees are out of sight. I miss the days of the gravel pits where I could come and go as I please and never had a problem.
