WOW! i went to my first REAL gun store this past week. we were on vacation, in the kalamazoo mi area. on the south west end of town, there was a sign that just said "guns" in a retail area. on our way back through i stopped. man, any of you guys have a real gun store in your are are very lucky indeed. i have been to a lot of sporting goods stores, and gunsmiths in my 50+ years. but this place was huge, about the size of a dunhams, but with nothing that wasn't related to guns, shooting, or cleaning. no canoes, fishing rods, or tents. there must have been a thousand guns, and so much ammo, it wasn't even funny. anytime i go to that area, i will plan a trip there.

On Target Guns is the name of that place; I used to work there.

The selection is great, but the owners/practices/procedures are as shady as the day is long.

That place is run by the "good old boys" network and it shows. PM for details.

I know the feeling. I still remember the first time I walked into the Kittery Trading Post in Maine back in the early 80's. I wish I'd been little smarter about milsurps back then!

How are the prices at On Target Guns? CAn you give me like some major brand of firearm and the price?

I'd like to compare it to some of the stores in my area.

OnTarget is pretty good on most things. Their ammo is rather pricey though as compared to wal-mart, online. They are also willing to bicker with you, and you can make some pretty good cash deals as well.

up north i went to a gunshop like that a few months ago. i could not believe my eyes. most amazing. the knowledge and help you also get is fantastic

If any of you folks ever make it to Galesburg Illinois, DO NOT LEAVE without stoping at Simpons LTD. on South Seminary St.. Belive me it will be an experince you'll not forget. On the floor for public view is over 1500 guns. ALL types. (twice maybe 3 times more in the back)

When I was younger there was a sporting goods store in NYC called Abercrombie & Fitch, yes the same name that the sports wear company uses.

It was a 7 floor dept store of top ,and I mean top quality sporting goods.

The entire 7th floor of this huge dept store was all guns. The best of the best. Best quality English, the best trap guns of the time, etc., etc., etc.

They also had their own custom gunsmith firm, Griffen (Grifith?) & Howe who could make and custom fit you anything.

You could outfit a complete safaii or a western hunt and everything in between from those 7 floors.

The best part was that they let this poor 13 year old, me, touch and hold anything I wanted to. The sales men were used to dealing with wealthy clients and treated every customer with impecable manners, even kids they knew could never buy anything there, which is why I loved the place.

Sadly, the store went out of business, and all we have left is a rebadged clothing line.
