A reminder…

Cut and pasted from a couple of locations on their website regarding the cases (brass) they sell. Don’t know about their ammunition but I do have other things to do:)

“SIG SAUER component cases are made from premium American brass.”

“The geometric consistency of these premium brass cases ensures each primer is held tightly in its pocket.”

I have a few cadmium plated steel .45 ACP cases from WWII in my pile of cases and they load just like anything else for me. Whether or not the SIG steel cases cause any issues, SIG should make it clear what they are constructed of so people don’t feel like they’re buying “premium brass cased ammo” and actually shooting steel.

Wow! That's an awful lot of hate for the Christmas season! I'm a little shocked - but not a lot. I'm getting used to reading posts online filled with bile and fury when some business doesn't kowtow.

I was loading a bunch of 9mm and some of the SIG cases didn’t quite feel right. I just thought maybe the brass was thicker than the other brands… well, as others have mentioned on here, some of the SIG brass is actually steel cased.

I went back through my pile of brass with my magnet and found about 20 more cases.

My 9mm die is scratched and will need replaced.

Be mindful of SIG headstamped brass and buy a magnet!!! Like this one:

I bought a box of rare earth magnets on amazon, and glued them to the underside of the tubbies I use to sort brass, and move them around the loading bench. These tubbies hold about 20lbs of 223, couple of shakes, and all the steel stick to the bottom. I've found brass plated steel 223, 9mm, 45 acp, 380 acp, 40 S&W, and 357 Sig. The brass plated 223 was also berdan primed. Without the magnet, I'd have never guessed some of this was steel. I also have the same magnets on the output funnel of my dillon and mark 7 case feeders. You have to play around to get the best spot, as the wrong place and you stop it before the switch...and it'll jam up.

... Sounds like plain old "piling on" about "jerks". Did Sig say they were brass? What harm was done to any guns tools etc., from plated steel cases? ...

Like me, lots of folks take into account the cases when making a purchasing decision. If they are brass cases I can reload them many times, if steel, not. Therefore I do not buy commercial steel-cased (or berdan primed, for the same reason) ammo.

If the MFR (who knows that many of his/her customers reload) fails to notify potential buyers that the brass-looking cases are actually steel, that MFR is at best being disingenuous.

Okay, so new rule: if the box doesn’t say “brass case” don’t buy it. Problem solved.
