This is not fake.

Yep, saw those all over the place when I lived in the UK, saw more in London & Glasgow than in most other places though.

Ha......I should ask some friends in Britain to steal me one of those signs or get me one somehow.

You know, the British news now just reports about stupid crap they find on camera. Entire neighborhoods are being taped now, it's crazy. One guy's suicide attempt got caught on camera, and it was all over the news.

You know, everyone always talks about how 1984 is coming true, but I always think to the book Fahrenheit 451 when Montag's wife is watching the "wall" and it asks her, "what do you think?". I thought it was always kind of like people today watching vote-in reality shows on plasma TVs. Like American Idol, the viewers vote at home (I think, I don't watch :) ) and it makes it look like the TV people actually give a crap about you.

I actually had the proverbial shiver run up my spine when I saw that picture.

All I can think of now is I saw it - I can't un-see it.

To think that we sprang from that polluted gene pool>>> :barf:

well, if it was actually true that the british were secure beneath these watchful eyes, one might have to reconsider his criticism and hesitance. but given that crime rates only swell in britain's big cities, and that all the cameras seem to do is provide a tool for police to harass generally law-abiding citizens(as they are apparently incapable of or uwilling to collar the yobs), the most appropriate response seems to be a deep belly laugh. for more chuckles, stop by the Guardian's website and read daily contributions to the comments section.

England's crime rate has been skyrocketing in the last few years, with gun crimes increasing exponentially, and to think this in a society where private ownership of firearms has been basically banned. Statistics show that most violent crime is higher per capita in london than in any US city. The problem with public cameras that most want to ignore is that criminals know the cameras are there too and how to disguise themselves from them, and therefore make them useless except for documenting that the crime happened at all. The other problem is misuse, British tabloids and paparazzi are a huge buisness paying several thousands for a single picture, and in a society that is no where near as "sexually modest" as the US, they probably do have cameras in bathrooms, and the guy that monitors the cameras for probably low wages probably would jump up at the chance to sell pictures and video of anyone to anyone. Sometimes an advanced modern society can do some scary stuff to it's people. Hope those in washington don't try to import this idea from across the pond.

WOAH...

That poster is basically identical to the "Big Brother" posters, but changed enough to look different... that's scary. Sure am never going to england. never planned to, but now i know why i never will.

I have heard this time and time again about how murder rates in England are going up but I've yet to see factual evidence supporting it. Can someone please enlighten me of where I can see this for myself. <sarcasm here--> Does England.gov report the murders in their country? I'm not trying to say it isn't true, but when I bring this "fact" out in an argument, I don't want to be blasted for spewing out baseless information or propaganda.

I had to go to the site on the poster www.tfl.gov.uk a little surfing found this gem:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/initiatives-projects/policing/crime-reduction.asp

The document outlines the three strategic priorities of TfL and its police partners:

Improving the perception of safety and security on transport services
Reducing anti-social behaviour
Reducing crime by tackling priority crimes (eg robbery and hate crime)

Haha...ha

Wow is the UK actually rolling over that easily?

Pardon me sir, the state wants to make sure you feel safe. Do you feel safe sir?

No. I have no way to defend myself according to the laws of the state.

Does this poster make you feel safer now?

Oh yes now that I know the state is a voyeur, yes I feel much safer.

Good carry on with your day sir.
