A Taurus PT145 followed Me home today!

I went to the gun show today to meet up with some people I haven't seen in a few years (I used to work with them) and they had 1 Taurus in the sea of glocks and S&Ws. I started just looking at the taurus then handling it and my friend said give her to you for $300 even. I looked at it for about 5 more minutes then had to have it. I think it will make a nice little carry gun if I can find a good rig.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
 
I currently have two, and I like 'em a lot.
Here are some tips:

Clean/lube it before shooting it the first time (if you don't already). Also, you may need to pull the trigger to get the slide off during takedown for cleaning.

You may like the feel of a slip on rubber grip w/ finger grooves ( I use trimmed Hogue Handalls- NOT junior size).

If you have one of the new SA/DA ones with the Heinie straight eight 2-dot sights, you may find that you may shoot low, and some folks actually black out the bottom dot entirely.

Some folks also seem to have trouble with Winchester white box, but I've shot tons of it through mine and they seem to like it fine so far.

Wow ! One came home with me yesterday too !

I had eyed it for a couple of days and had to go back and get it. It's a Millenium PT145 Pro in Stainless. I haven't made it to the range yet, but can't wait. It seemed nicer in my hand than my Keltec 9mm does. I hope it is as trusty. It sure feels more like a gun (haha). The Keltec has been what I carry when I can't carry a "real gun". I sure like something larger. You know what I mean. They are just a manageable size when a big one is out of the question.

I have heard of some problems with the early models and I think they worked out the bugs by now. They say these are the 3rd generation and they seem to function fine. I have run mags of ammo thru it by hand and it seems it may even fire HPs with out a problem.

I hope it meets my expectations and it will be my main CCW weapon. I can't wait to get it to the range sometime this week.

Good Choice!

Pick up a Para Ord 14 round magazine for the PT145. It's fun to watch the looks people give as your "little" .45 shoots 15 times:D.

As far as a holster for these go: I ordered one from High Noon. I love their stuff. I got the Tail Gunner IWB.

Does your have the light rail? cause the ones with the light rail won't quite fit in holsters for the non-railed model. I tried a 145 marked Forbus, and it would only go in about half way. My High Noon is for a non-railed one, but I can squeeze mine into it okay. At least I won't have to worry about retention!

Fun guns, don't kick too bad at all for a small .45. Conceals a bit easier than my SP101, which is comparable in size. Mine has had a few light strikes with WWB. Good thing it's a true double action! I do need to experiment with some different carry ammo for it though.
 
One followed me home a few weeks ago too! The trigger didn't take as much getting used to as I thought it would (other 45's are 1911's). I don't care much for the Heinie sights though, wish it had traditional three dots. I've searched the web for replacement sights but haven't had much luck. Those who do make replacements for Taurus autos don't make them for the MilPro. I contacted Trijicon and they apparently do not have plans to make any. They gave me a link to a place that will fit a set onto my gun, but they need the gun and about $175 to do it. Sorry, don't have the link anymore.

Ironically, there ARE Trijicons for the DAO version of the 145/745, which had a three-dot with a different, basic screw attachment. I have them on my 745 and love them.

I ordered a holster & belt from RafterS, it should be here sometime next week. Their stuff is affordable, and from what I've read here and on other fourms is very good quality. I'll do a review once I get it.

they are good pistols, Ive had mine DA/SA for most of this year....put over 500 rounds through it without a hicup. Although I do clean the hell out of it every 100 rounds or so.
I use a Bianchi inside the waistband rig with a clip on for CCW...but it is a little too thick for my taste.

**Good tip on the para mags, I will have to pick one up!!
 
I purchased a High Noon slide guard model for mine. You will find that the best ammo for these small barrel pocket cannons are the copper tops...either the Taurus HEX or the Corbon DPX.
 
I ordered a "Split Decision" from High Noon Holsters for my PT-111, a great buy for the money. My DA/SA pistol seems to be reliable but I do need to shoot it some more. I am wondering if there are any magazines that will work with my PT-111, like the Para magazines any one know? The last magazines I saw were 10 rd Taurus magazines at $45 a piece, a little expensive if you ask me. Congrats on the PT-145 purchase. I believe I found some three dot sights one day while surfing that fit the Mil Pro. Let me see what I can find.

The PT145 is it's own design and is not related to the 24/7. However, the 24/7 is coming out with a compact design as well.

You will want the Para Ord P14 magazine. I don't know if it will work in the newer versions but it should. Mine is a Mil Pro without the rail and it works great. P12 magazines might work also but I haven't tried them.
 
The Taurus PT145 is awesome.

Just bought it and have only been to the range once. We shot at 25 yards which is pretty far for a 3" barrel and we all stayed on paper. The recoil on the molded polymer frame is so much different than the all metal frame. With My wifes Taurus .357mag revolver, after a few rounds you can feel tenderness in the arch between your thumb and index finger. A friend of mine had an all steel 9mm makarov which is between a .380 and a regular 9mm. It shoots a 110 grain bullet and after a few shots I could feel discomfort in the arch of my hand. We fired both my pt145 and beretta PX4 Storm in .40 S &W. The Beretta .40 S&W had 180 gr FMJ and the .45 had 230 gr FMJ. Both will let you know you just shot a pretty big bullet, but its a smooth recoil. There is no shock to your hand or wrist. When my wife tried the .45 she really enjoyed it. Even though its twice the 9MM its a very comfortable recoil.

I used the old colt Gold cup in the army which is quite a bit larger and heavier than the Taurus, and had about 25% more recoil than the Taurus with a lot of shock and discomfort to the hand and wrist.

I love both my Beretta and my Taurus, wouldn't trade them for anything.
 
Have you folks gone over to the Taurus Forum at www.unitedforums.com and poste your results and satisfaction with Taurus over there? If not then maybe you should. They can use the input over there. They need positive posts. Seems ther be trolls over there at times.giving these a bad rap. I have the PT111Mil/pro older model and have 4500 round through it without a boggle or burp. PT145Mil/pro holsters are supposed to fit the 9mm. PT111Mil/pro. Same frame.
 
? My PT145 w/rail has normal 3 dot sights. They must sell them in different sight configurations.

actually you have a 3rd gen. PT-145 that was made before 3/2006 or so. those made after that time have the heinie sights, rail, and the new SA/DA trigger (as opposed to being DA/SA). the newest mil pros are just like the newest 24/7's but in a smaller package.
 
I don't have the PT145, but i've got the pt111 pro - that is, it's the 9mm version of the gun, 'old' long DAO trigger, and three-dot sights. It shoots well, and I've never had it malfunction on me - I've put well over 1,000 rounds through it of various manufacturer. I can consistently hit bowling pins at 25 yards with it with only a little hold over (aim for the 'head' of the pin) which is, frankly, quite amazing for such a gun.

Taurus really needs to fix their catalog and nomenclature method: it would appear as if the original millennium pistols were an entirely different design than the millennium pros - the ones which supplanted them. Now, it looks like they're making millenniums again (no 'pro' scroll, same model # - that is, pt111), but with DA/SA triggers and two-dot heiene sights. Very confusing; I can understand the desire to keep the same advertising, but it leads to frustrated customers.

You've got that right!

I mean, they could even tout each new revision with bells and whistles when they made it. Instead, even owners who are thoroughly familiar with them have to rely on message boards to know what's what with the Millenniums.

Silly and frustrating.
 
Hi All- new guy here.

I've owned two PT-145's, and still have the latest version which is SA/DA. Taurus does make identifying the different versions confusing for sure. The newest Millenium Pro pistols are stamped Millenium on the left side, and the "PRO" is on the right side with the model number.

I really like the PT-145 a lot- regretted selling my first one so much I bought a new one!
 
How is the shootability of the poly-Tauri? I'd be curious to know the quality of the fit & finish and the trigger pull...
