Sometime this coming summer my wife and I are planning to drive to Alaska. Will be using a ferry part of the way but will still be driving too. Much of the trip will be in British Columbia. Would like to take along a revolver but is there any way that this can be done legally in BC?

It's virtually impossible to get permission to take any handgun into Canada, even if it conforms to that country's legal requirements w.r.t. barrel length, etc. The only exceptions I've found have been for handgun hunting, and even those have been few and far between.

Nope, you're SOL. The ONLY way a non-resident is allowed to bring a handgun into Canada is for a pre-approved shooting competition, and when it's not being used in that competition, it has to be trigger-locked and locked inside a carrying case  If you value your freedom and rights, take the ferry from Washington to Alaska, and don't spend a dime in this socialist hellhole.
Edited to add: Please don't be tempted to "sneak" one across; even though criminals do it all the time, all that the tax-collector at the border needs to think is that you've been in the same state as a real, live gun before, and that's all the justification they need to strip your vehicle down to the bare frame to look for it. If they don't find one, well, that's not their problem :barf:

I have read, but do not know for a fact, that Canada can seal the box at the border, and it darn well better still be sealed when you leave. Call _them_ and ask.

Well, what I would like to know is if you can even take an old 30-30 rifle with you, without being planning to hunt or compete....?

I wouldn't want to be camping along the road without some sort of protection.

Course, the best protection for me is to just stay home in Montana ....
