A non gun buddy of mine forwarded me this video link. It's an 8 minute piece on a WWII sniper that just brings tears to your eyes as he accepts a replica of he rifle he carried in the war, and whacks a 300yd target with it, and then hits a 1000 yd target with the current rifle of the Army Marksmanship Unit

So, if you know any of these guys, or meet any. Be sure to take a minute and thank them for there service at least. If you have an opportunity, spend some time with them. Their experiences are priceless, and we're losing them more and more every day.

I was fortunate once to spend an afternoon with one of the original Flying Tigers who spent a large part of the late 1930s in China with Claire Chenault. It was an afternoon that I am honored to have had. If you have the opportunity do not deny yourself. Work will wait a day if needs be.

My grandfather was a forward observer for the 45th Infantry during the Italian Campaign. He helped liberate Dachau. When he enlisted he had a wife and a daughter on the way. He joined because he felt it was his duty as an american to serve in the armed forces. He never once saw himself as a hero, despite having earned 2 bronze stars and a silver star.

Most of them don't. To me that humbleness is what MAKES them heroes.
