A Week with Hodgdon H110

When I first started using W296 there were notes in the WW load data book "NOT TO REDUCE THE LOAD", LOAD AS IS. I did this for several years till they finally decided it was safe to drop only 3% and no more. That is still the recommendation for the powder. The problem seams to be that it has some type of ignition propagation problem. Which means it would not produce a consistent burn/pressure of the powder. Which actually says it has a very narrow band for which it works as it suppose to. I started using back in the early 70's on a 30 carbine pistol, then 357mag. Now days I use if for 357mag and my 458 SOCOM. I currently buy it by the 8lbs jugs......

I use H-110-WIN 296 in my Remington model 7 300BK with 130gr bullets and its a deer killer with in the ranges I use it, 100-125 yards on standing broadside double lung shots. eastbank.

Started off with H110 in 480 Ruger with a 355gr bullet. Very good load then I tried Lil'Gun and it really like that. Guess I'll use which ever one I can get my hands on.

Magnum primers to ignite the H110 so far in everything EXCEPT the 22 TCM.

I have never heard of that round.
Any time I speak of that powder I am talking about magnum handgun loads. I probably should specify that, since there are always exceptions and always rounds that not everyone has heard of.

thank goodness the military developed the 30 carbine cartridge and the powder that went in it! it's the best for full-power magnum pistol loads. with a mag primer, this powder always gives me very low muzzle velocity extreme spreads (full-power, of course).
