I went to a public storage auction yesterday. I got to thinking what if I won a unit that had guns in it. Would it be legal? As the high bidder anything in that unit becomes my property through the owners default on payment. There is no law against firearms transfer person to person here in Tennessee but what about Business (public storage co) or auctioneer to person sale. Neither knows whats in the unit, at time of the sale the unit is opened the bidding starts sold haul it away. Usually before the sale begins the auctioneer tells you if you find any important documents, financial info, ss cards or the such to turn them into the sheriff's office so they can be returned to the person, but no mention of firearms.

If your are legal to own A hand gun the by law it is yours. That being said I probably would give the local LEOs a heads up about it. It could have been involved in a crime or be stolen. Let them ask you for it, just give make , model , and serial number. Beats a "recieving stolen property " beef.

JMHO.

you bought it legally. its yours. of course there are a few states like NY and CA where it could be problematic to actually do so legally. probably not an issue in TN.

i like the idea of running it through the stolen gun database.
