lackey

noun
1. a male servant (especially a footman)
2. a person who tries to please someone in order to gain a personal advantage

Is this derogatory? Guess the truth hurts:rolleyes:

On e-bay I bought an "antique" from a supposed reputable dealer, it was junk not antique at all, made in Tibet no less. I lost to the seller over it. Total screw job for sure.

All locations have the good and bad, I used paypal for the purchase, at the time I didn't know paypal and e-bay are/were/still, mated at the hip:what:

I would have been better off buying with my cc from visa and not have gone with the paypal account. Live and learn.:cuss:

+1 on using your CC instead of Paypal, at least then you have options for fighting fraud. Paypal is really slow/ineffective in dealing with it :( I cancelled my Paypal account when they got blatantly anti-2A and haven't missed it at all

It sounds like GB suspected JRMSR of shill bidding and cancelled his account.

He needs to call his CC company and chargeback the $177 for services not rendered, and move on.

Without addressing the OPs issues, I can tell you from personal experience that GB has absolutely ZERO interest in protecting buyers. As a general rule, they will bend over backwards to protect their revenue stream, which equates to the SELLER.

The original poster was the seller, not the buyer.

Auctions always involve risk. The auction house isn't either the seller or the buyer, only the channel used by the two to make their deal.

It seems naive to expect the auction house to protect either the seller or the buyer or to act as the judge in disputes between them. All it should be expected to do is protect itself. It ain't our momma.

All that aside, threads like this are disturbing to me because they invite still other people to judge the dispute and, usually, to post their own complaints about one of the parties. It's a vigilante situation in which no one but the person who starts the thread has all the information, and any information that person provides is sure to be onesided. These are invitations to a lynching.

This forum isn't Gunbroker, the transaction didn't involve this forum, and the person who started the ruckus joined for the sole purpose of starting it. Although there's a certain morbid fascination in watching a lynching it's not fair play in any way. The forum and its members are being used.

Ah, KingJoey.

KJ was kicked off the forum several times for misbehavior. No ax to grind here, eh Joey?

I didn't contact the GB owner and I didn't know how to if I wanted. I sent a message to a GB employee who forwarded it. I did receive a reply from the owner to explain the nature of the problem with the former seller but I am not "in" with him in any way. I assume he knows my name from dropping into the forums from time to time but that's all.

Lacky is rather insulting (but you've called many people far worse, haven't you?) and the original message in this thread was very insulting towards the GB owner. Yet the thread continues so I am not sure about at what point we cross the line as per THR policy.

I got involved in this simply because I have had dealings with GB for 7 years with no serious problems and I was thinking that MSJRS's criticism was one-sided and sounded suspicious. Being a moderator on the GB forum has nothing to do with this situation. I don't get paid, I have no financial interest in GB, and the auction side and the forum side are totally separate, anyway.

Several of us got kicked off of GB because they were letting Mr. Dennis use the site as his podium for spewing anti-Semitic/pro-Palestinian drivel and admin there protected him like they were a bunch of 88'ers. It was OK for him to spew this crap and troll people, but if anyone complained, returned the facor, or flamed him they were crucified on the spot. I guess GB's forum has the same double-standard and lax policing that their forum does. And NO, the forum and auction sides are not seperate. If you have something to plug, GB will let you post as much about it as you want. If you have so much as a question about the auction side they delete your posts. Doesn't sound seperate to me. Saxon, you better go get some more KoolAid before you wake up to reality
