About AR barrels - why choose an 11.5" vs. 16"?

Allow him to use it, yes. Personally own one? No. Having LEO credentials does not negate the requirement for a police officer to register a privately owned machine gun, SBR, SBS, etc. -- just like any other civilian.

And my points were simply that a) it is federal law, not state law (though some states reiterate it in their own texts or are more restrictive) and that b) to "own" (your word) one, even if you are a LEO, you must still have the appropriate tax stamp.

Well, I settled the handguard issue today.

1) $5 in the bargain box at the gun show for a nice set of early service type. So I got those ready if it comes with the round type! And for only $5...




2) In the bin, there were only two full sets, and then another bundle with about six right side ones. So apparently it is the left side that always breaks.

One big selling point is that it looks cool. I'd say that's why most are sold. Some are probably bought for Form 1 intentions, but to be honest I think I'd rather have a 16" cut and threaded by Adco.

Correct, however, some CLEOs wont sign off for anyone who can legally own one, but they will for LEOs because they have jedi-like mastery of firearms

Yep, however Dissipator is a trademarked name for BM. They just haven't sued other companies like Colt did over "M4."

And dissys are well liked in my house. Yeah, they look goofy, but if I wanted a gun that looked good I would have got the 11.5/5.5 A1 upper. Instead, I've got a short, handy carbine, and the long sight radius.

However, I'm thinking about a 20" bbl cut down to 18.
