Was at gun shop yesterday looking at a cx4 9mm storm one gunshop told me it had to be registered as a pistol becuse overall length was like 1/8 too short.. Now as i was shoping prices ona shotgun that day i went to another gun shop i also frequent and happened to ask them and they said no it sales as a rifle...

Anyone have one and know??

I trust bith shops and both employees as ive dealt with botha lot over the years i dont think either would steer me wrong but 2 different answers...

Anything under 30" has to be registered as a pistol in MI. Gallery of Guns lists the OAL as 29.7", so I would say the first store is right.

OTOH, I would think that unless you plan on using it in a crime, or you get caught and the officer is seriously anti-gun, you won't have any problems if it isn't registered. NOT THAT I ADVOCATE BREAKING THE LAW.

Thx didnt think about checking its OAlL anywhere to see weather it would be or not ... What a pain people at police station are goffy enough when registering handguns they will love it if i buy this

If I'm not mistaken, wouldn't its status as a pistol actually be a potential advantage in some limited circumstances? That would allow one to carry it in their vehicle loaded and uncased if they had a CPL/CCW. Doing the same with a, erm, uh, longgun (non-pistol?) is a big no-no, even with a concealed pistol license.

I agree for most people that this would be a big PITA. I think that Michigan needs to re-align their OAL requirement with the federal requirements.

My only thing is if i buy it i have to take a day off work to get it registered since they will only do it tuesday -thursday  course i have mondays off
