I am ready to buy my concealed carry gun. I am going with 9mm because I will be able to practice more due to the lower cost of ammo, I have a Model 15 S&W K38 right now and don't shoot as much as I would like because of the price of .38 special CTG. I was planning on getting the Bersa Thunder 9mm Ultra Compact. Reasons for this were reading many threads on it's reliability and my budget. It took longer to get my license than expected though and my budget has gone up so I am now looking at the CZ P-01. Any input on these two guns would be greatly appreciated or other gun recommendations. Thanks.

The CZ P01 is a great pistol. The problem most shooters find is the double action trigger pull. CZ polishes the actions on the 75s, but doesn't on the P01. It will smooth out but mine took about a thousand rounds to do so.

If you can find the 75 Compact PCR you might want to consider that model. You'll lose the rail but get a better trigger.

Glock 26 should be a serious contender. Exceptionally reliable, tons of parts and accessories available, trivial to field strip and pretty easy to detail strip. Good capacity and very small. Some claim it's thicker than single stack guns like Kahrs, but I don't notice such things and I'd rather have the larger capacity and superior reliability of the Glock. The 27 is good too, but IMHO I see more feeding problems reported with .40 caliber in general so I prefer 9mm. The G26 simply works, regardless of what kind of ammo you throw at it.

I own a CZ P-01. I own 2 Bersa Thunder 9 Ultracompacts and a Bersa Thunder 9 Fullsize. My CCW is a Bersa T9 UC.
The Bersa is a great pistol at a great price.

Thanks for the advice.
I guess I'll go back to my original plan of the Bersa. Then save up and get a full size CZ 75 B later.

Also, I love shooting my S&W double action revolver so was considering a Double Action Only pistol for carry. Springfield Armory or CZ, but is this a good idea for a defense gun just because I like my revolver so much.

hi, I'm also looking at the Bersa thunder 9 compact for CCW. Also, consider looking at the EAA Witness compact or Baby Eagle compact. Both guns designed with CZ influence. I'm also looking at the CZ RAMI 2075

I don't have a preference here, tho I have heard good things about the Bersa and the Cougar. If you have a bigger budget, buy more ammo or some reloading equipment. No matter what you get, it is more important to practice regularly than to have the most expensive gun you can afford. I have learned from long experience that my shooting skills deteriorate quite rapidly if I don't keep up on my range time. If you miss in crunch time, it doesn't matter what gun you have.
