Might be too late as the word has gotten out, however Academy is doing 75% off clearance items this weekend to make way for new fall stock. Optics are very inexpensive right now! Had a bunch of Leupolds, Burris, Vortex, and Bushnell marked off. Got a Bushnell 1k rangefinder for $27 and a 3-9x40 Trophy riflescope for $22. Son got a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x for $54.

And here I thought the Walmart clearance adventures had me finished shopping...

I went thursday, and they had signs up for 75% off clearance, but there was no clearance to be seen. it was all new fall stock.

I just checked my local Academy. Only a few TruGlo and Centerpoint optics on the rack, and at regular price. The gun guy told me the optics clearance was last week: 75% off Nikon optics. Oh, well.

However, he did show me handguns that arrived today, to include Shield EZ 380 and Shield EZ 9 in the counter. Both have manual safety. He explained they want that for new, first time buyers. That appears to be why shops are ordering EZs all with the thumb safety.

I stumbled into academy last weekend when the 1/2 off of clearance prices was running. Locally it was about 500 pair of odd sized shoes (mostly hideous) one rack of shirts, and 2 tiny racks containing a handful of fishing and shooting items that absolutely made sense to be on the clearance of clearances sale. Nary an item I was interested in... although the wife got a good laugh when I brought over a pair of neon green running shoes and I offered to use them as mowing shoes. She wasn’t $12 impressed though.

Wish we had an Academy nearby. As it is, the drive to any of them especially without a guarantee of finding a deal wouldn't be worth it. Killer deal on that rangefinder, thats on my gear list. Not a priority, and unless I find a killer deal I'll probably end up getting an Athlon Midas.

I don’t know about the new fall stock part, the last one I went into looked like they were going out of business.
My local store looked fairly barren, too. They had the optics locked in cabinets and most of their guns were still in the back. Was told they received a large shipment of rifles and shotguns from Savage and Remington. I believe they said Glocks and S&W's were expected this week.
