Accuracy after barrel instalation

Gentelmen--I am gettin the urge to get another 1911 but am very spoiled by the one that I have. It is an old 1911 made in 1918 that has been accurized as a wad gun and very accurate with a great trigger. I have been looking at Springfield G.I. and Mil Spec and it appears to me the only difference are the sights. All I really want is a range gun that will stay under 2"@ 25 yds with a decent 4 lb. trigger. My thought is to buy a G.I., instal a Kart EZ fit barrel using their kit from Brownells, buy the staking tool and change out the sights. My question is if I instal the barrel & bushing per Kart instructions without screwing it up can I be fairly sure of my 2"@25 yd accuracy desire? Thanks in advance. Nick

Information about accurizing a 1911 has been around for many years and is available in books and videos.. Barrel, barrel to bushing fit, slide to frame fit, barrel to slide fit are all important. Don't know about the Kart but unless they give assurance about accuracy you might have to do more.

No Nothing is certain and 2"@25 is pretty tight for any handgun much less a tilting barrel autoloading pistol. My Buckmark 5.5 Target could do it from a ransom rest without trouble, but probably not with all ammo.

Taking a serivce pistol design to that level of accuracy is something people charge a lot of money for and there's a good reason for it. Lots of specialty tools. Lots of experiance. You're probably looking at a lot more money to get a 2"@25 yd gun, either buying custom from the start or putting a LOT of work into that "made to function" spec GI to turn it into a tight target piece.

Time effort and money probably have more to do with it than luck. It's possible you could get that kind of accuracy from it, even right out of the box, but highly unlikely.

Two inches at 25 yards is not too hard. A friend has a Colt that will do it with nothing more than a fitted bushing on the stock barrel... and the right ammo, of course. I think the Kart will do it for you. Now 2" at 50 yards is a different matter.
