Hello everyone -

I know you can safely shoot .223 in a 5.56 chamber (but not vice versa). My AR's are all 5.56.

Cabela's has some great deals now on 55gr .223. Given that the powers that be in CT have essentially made it impossible to buy ammo online I'm tempted by these deals, but not at the expense of accuracy. Can anyone tell me whether shooting 55 gr .223 in a 5.56 chamber would result in lower accuracy that 55 gr 5.56? Thanks-

No difference.

Good ammo is good ammo.

Bad ammo is bad ammo.

Some of the .223 Varmint & Match ammo is way more accurate then anything loaded in 5.56mm.

All of my ARs have 5.56 chambers, even my hunting ones.

I hunt with this stuff:

IMHO, the best commercially produced .223 hunting ammunition out there. I get MOA performance out of both my hunting ARs with it. Couldn't be a happier camper.

So yeah, it's good shooting .223 in a 5.56 chamber

The only way to see the results is, try them out. Get a box of 20 rounds and see the grouping. If the hit on mark, there you go.

As the others have said, I find no discernible difference. I shoot a lot of AE 55 grain - the black box - and find it very accurate.
