And i got to shoot it today... 
My uncle had a remington 700 chambered in this .416 Remington Mag round and i always wanted a gun like this. So he let me have it. I was so happy
Dont have a pic at the moment but its a basic 700 remington, with somewhat satin finish wood stock, blued barrel. It has a muzzle brake installed, which at first i didnt really like or want but i'm glad it has it Also has a Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5 x 20 scope up top to finish it off.
I was nervous about shooting this gun, since most recoil calculators puts it about double my 12 gauge slug gun (beast) loads which i feel are pretty stout. manageable but stout. I was thinking the muzzle brake may only take 30% off the feel which still puts the numbers alittle more than my heaviest slug load.
So i took my beast and the 416 out to the range today to test it out. Warmed up with the beast using some 3 1/2 inch #4 buckshot loads which are my fox/coyote gun loads, and my old 546 grain at 1520fps Federal rifle slugs. To my surprise the 3 1/2 inch shell was much more harsh on the shoulder than the old slug loads. Its been awhile since i shot the rifle slugs so i was happy they didnt hurt as bad as i was expecting.
Feeling good i went to the 416. 400 grain barnes solid... remington ammo. about 2400 fps. I held tight, standing-shooting this gun by the way, and touched off a round. To my surprise it was mild, just about like the 12 gauge slug loads i had, but alittle more of a quicker kicking push than the slug guns slower powerful push recoil. I touched off 2 more rounds and loved it. I'm sure i could somewhat comfortably shoot this gun off the bench about 6-8 times like my sluggun before my shoulder gives in.
The short little leupold scope is a nice addition to this gun. My uncle used it to take several African big plains game like Eland and i believe possibly a cape buff.
I had hearing protection on like always and it didnt seem much louder than my 12 gauge which is not ported in anyway. My brother said he could really feel the shockwave tho as he was standing beside me alittle to my right.
I am not sure i want to know how recoil would be without the brake on it tho. it could be pretty substantial. With it tho, its not much worse than the big slug loads in my 9lb 870 remington. the 3 1/2 inch buckshot load is substantially more punishing.
Maybe i'll post up a pic of the gun when i get more time. Its really sweet to finally own a powerful dangerous game rifle but i may never see africa or any big moose/brown bear hunts, so its one of those "just to have" guns, as is MOST of my rifles now.
