I've been pondering a custom compensator for a while now.

On an SA, several interesting possibilities arise. You could take a 4.68" Ruger Blackhawk, chop the barrel back to 4" or a hair under, add this to bring the total length back to 4.68" and mount the ejector housing to one of the cone's mounting screws. Only trick there is that the area of the tube directly under the ejector housing would need to be "ramped" so that the ejector rod button doesn't "stick" on the way forward, but that's no biggie. A Dremel could do it, as that part of the tube under the ejector housing wouldn't be seen anyways. You'd also have to slightly clearance the ejector housing with a "step" around the part where the tube goes.

Or, you could just leave the 4.68" barrel as normal and add this on the end, clearancing the tube around the completely unmodified ejector housing which still bolts to the same screw hole in the barrel it always did.

Comments welcome.

Mmmmh...

Ok then.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a Physical Engineer, nor to I pretend to be one in Internet chat rooms.

With that being said, I’d think that the muzzle blast would defeat those two set screws and turn the compensator insert into a secondary projectile. Since the ports are on in the, uhm…’barrel sleeve’ thingy, the insert doesn’t need to be indexed in any particular way, right? So why not make it threaded into the sleeve. Perhaps with offset slots for removal alá Dan Wesson barrel nuts?

I don't think I would use brass or aluminum for this project, I doubt they would last long. I also don't think the JB Weld would hold up, so that leaves brazing as the best method of attaching the tube to the barrel. I also think this could end up being butt ugly real fast. Why not just have the revolver Magna-Ported and be done with it?

Why?

Because MagnaPorting is old and busted; we want the new hotness.

TRANSLATION: Why not? I love stuff like this; keeps the creative juices flowing.

Still working on my gas operated dual cylinder semi-auto revolver concept...

Part of this is about "what can be added quickly and cheaply to an existing setup" (read: homebrewed). Plus I think there's a lot of extra efficiency to be had with this design, in that you're using gasses from all round the muzzle bore versus just the upper part...
