Addams Arms AR-15, any good?

I would be hesitant to buy one unless I got a great price. They seem to be a new company, rely heavily on "tactical" advertising, and are priced at a fairly high dollar for pretty basic M4s. Nothing against new brands, but I've been burned too many times by brand new "wonderguns"... I prefer not to be the beta tester for a new brand or firearm. I would give them a bit to establish themselves in the market and build up a reputation of some kind before I would chance a buy.
This is an example of what I mean: http://vuurwapenblog.com/2013/05/04/pretty-much-the-worst-ar-15s-ive-ever-seen/

I wouldn't bother.

Buy something good, with a good and established reputation.

There are WAAAYYY too many good choices to buy corner-cutting products or take a chance on an unknown quantity.

Addams Arms or Adams Arms?

Adams Arms has been around for years. They do a lot of piston ARs.

I am no fan of piston ARs, but if you are speaking of the same Adams Arms, they are a known manufacturer. I haven't owned one, but i have shot them. I can think of anything bad.

Some people like them. Hopefully you'll hear from some.

What are your applications? Does a front piston system fit in or would a standard DI upper of quality be a better choice for you? Myself, I've not seen any reason to go with Adams over DI.

In addition to the gas system look at the rest of the upper, pay real good attention to the barrel and BCG. Oh, you said cheap, how cheap?

I wonder about melonite barrel coating vs Crome-Molly.
Chrome-Moly is deceptive marketing. It just means there's chrome and molybdenum in the steel alloy. Unless the barrel is stated as hard chrome lined, it's not chrome lined.

Melonite is almost as wear resistant as, equally wear resistant to, or more wear resistant than hard chrome lining, depending on whose study you read. Melonite also has the advantage of being a chemical process (nitrogen salt bath), and not a coating. So, Melonite / Tenifer / Tufftride don't alter dimensions. Hard chromed barrels have to be over bored to allow for the added thickness of the chrome to fill the bore out to the proper diameter. Getting that done evenly and maintaining concentric bore is no easy task.

S&W and i think CMMG have melonite barrels. They have been getting good results.

Its a great looking upper. I bought one of these before the crazy prices for about $550 on midway. I converted mine to 264 LBC by switching the barrel and bolt so never fired it as it came from the factory. Having said that I've had no problems with the piston what so ever and I prefer it to DI. Have a buddy that's using the 556 barrel and it seems to work fine.
