Yesterday, I went browsing and found a NIB Glock 23 for $500.00 out the door. I'm a Sig guy at heart! I decided to retire my P228 for awhile due to my project of getting it turned into a 2-tone. I was looking for something to replace it as my carry gun. I looked at the various 9's but kept coming back to the 40's. I never thought I would buy a glock! I do have to say that they felt alot better than the 1st generations I had experience with though. I didn't have any 40's in my collection yet so this will be the first. I have the Sig P220 and P228, and now a Glock. I also looked at the Glock 27, which I was very tempted to get. Maybe, in a few months I will pick up one. Now, I have to find 3 spare mags to go with it and get some range time. I still think that they aren't as sexy as my Sigs! Any bad quirks I should know about from you glockers?

Not a one, guy. Mine has functioned flawlessly for well over 16,000 rounds. I did put some Handalls on it along with a 3.5 connecter and a Harrts recoireducer shortly after I bought in the early '90s. Enjoy...:)

I know the ka-boom question tends to get testy, and I have no real dog in the fight as I have no .40, but whenever the question of KBs comes up nobody ever seems to approach it the right way IMO.

To know whether G23s KB more than other guns you have to know not only how many Kbs there have been but how many G23s vs anything else are in use, and how often they are fired.

Without that information you have the same situation as saying "I see more Toyotas broken down than I do Maseratis therefore Toyotas are more likely to break down". If you don't know the number of Toyotas on the road and the amount of miles they drive, and the same for Maseratis, that may seem like a safe bet, at least on an inferential and anecdotal level.

Of course because we all know, at least in general, the vastly greater number and miles driven for the utilitarian midprice Toyota vs. the exotic adult toy Maserati, we all intuitively know Toyotas are in fact more reliable.

Now I don't claim that Glocks are in that kind of relative position - the extreme example is there to make the point clear. However AFAIK Glocks do outsell other brands, especially in the 40 caliber which has a strong LEO following where Glocks definitely dominate. I have no idea on rounds fired except to assume that midprice guns known for durability are more likely to be blasted away for 500-rd range sessions.

So how often AS A RATE do Glock .40 caliber models KB compared to others? I dunno - and unless someone has the data above, they probably don't either.

BTW Congrats on the new gun. I have found Glocks in general to be enjoyable, low maintenance and reliable guns with nary a failure in my own experience, and more accurate than they are reputed to be too. I personally have no inclination towards the caliber so can't say anything about the G23 per se, but I would be surprised if it did not perform the same.

I have a g27 and love it no problems to date and lots of fun to shoot...enjoy your new glock

Enjoy that G23! The 23 was my very first, and currently only Glock and I couldn't be happier with it. It's dead reliable, holds 14 rds, fit's like a glove, and is plenty accurate. You'll love it!

Try a few different types of ammo in it, they often show a preference. Nice choice by the way.

I feel that the G19/23 are perhaps the finest pistols available anywhere at any cost.

They have amazing capacity for their light weight and compact dimensions. They are snag free--the slide is like a bar of soap. They have a low bore axis and only one trigger pull to learn. Their mag wells are huge and difficult to miss. They have unquestioned durability and reliability. The are small enough to conceal all day yet are big enough to be your primary handgun. Finally, Glocks dominance of the market has launched a huge aftermarket industry of easily installed parts. Next to the 1911 you will find no other type of pistol as popular in IDPA/USPSA/IPSC and shooting school use.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery--look at SIG, Springfield, HK, and S&W trying to field their own polymer framed pistols with similar triggers to try to gain a chunk of the LE and civilian market.

Excellent choice on the G23!

As far as KB's go, they have happened in many different types guns for various reasons. The design of the factory GLOCK barrel which makes it feed so reliably also leaves an area of the shell casing (when chambered) slightly less supported than some other designs. An overly stressed shell casing that is then reloaded will make for a greater risk of a KB most certainly if the stressed area overlaps with the lesser supported area in the chamber. Also the ability of the GLOCK and some other guns to fire without the slide being completely forward (ie. due to a very slightly buldged casing) adds to the risk. From the majority of the information I have researched concerning KB's and GLOCKs, reloads have been involved.

btw. targetsportsinc.com has the best prices on new GLOCK mags I have found yet and the shipping charges aren't over inflated.:)
