I'd like to get either a Glock 17 or 19 next (1st Glock). I'm trying to decide between the two. When I'm able to, it will be for CCW.

I can comfortably conceal a Sig P228. Most people seem to compare the P228 to the G19. However, taking a look at the dimensions, the P228 seems to be closer in size to the G17. Is this everyone's "practical" experience as well? I'd much rather get the full-size G17 since it's the "original" model, and I'm not sure I'll get any more Glocks down the road. Only time will tell.

Sig P228
Length - 7.08 inches
Height - 5.40 inches
Width - 1.5 inches

Glock 17
Length - 7.32 inches
Height - 5.43 inches
Width - 1.18 inches

Glock 19
Length - 6.85 inches
Height - 5.00 inches
Width - 1.18 inches

Of course, ideally, I would hold both and see which one fits my hand the best, but I'd like to hear other people's impressions too.

Thanks!

The Sig is better looking, the Glock holds more ammo. Sig and Glock are both great so you won't go wrong with either one.
I own both but if I were forced to choose one over the other it'd be the Sig.

The G19 is easier to conceal, but all three guns are great.

Just out of curiousity, what are the dimensions of the P226?

MK11, thanks. I was asking about G17 vs. G19. I already have a Sig P228. I was just using it as a size comparison, since I find it relatively easy to conceal. If the G17 is truly close to the dimensions of the P228, I'm guessing the G17 is equally easy to conceal. That would be great since I'd like to have an example of the Glock that started it all.

Kestrel:
P226
Length - 7.7 inches
Height - 5.5 inches
Width - 1.5 inches

Glock 17
Length - 7.32 inches
Height - 5.43 inches
Width - 1.18 inches

I also own a P228 so I'm partial to it; I agree that the 17 is the best and most versatile Glock; the more shooting experience you have, the more you realize that these really are all good guns, not a bad choice to be made, and your preference is just as valid as anyone elses. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The G17 and G19 have different grip sizes. Check them both out and see which one feels better for you.

If you are going to conceal a G17 is much harder to hide than a P228...I've owned multiple copies of both and carried both to a good extent....the Glock just has too much grip.

As for quality? Neck and neck.

I would compare the G-19 to a CZ-75D PCR before the P228. The CZ is smaller and lighter while carrying another round (14, opposed to the P228's 13). If you want a compact 9MM and like traditional DA/SA, then the PCR or P-01 is a good choice also. Nothing wrong with a G-19 though. Great gun.

With all that said, what do I carry lately? Sig P228.

I actually was able to rent a G17 at the range this weekend. I was very pleasantly surprised. At one point, I only shot single stack semi-autos, the double stackers always felt really big for me. But now that I've put in some time with the P228, the G17 felt like a perfect fit for my hand. I was not bothered by the Glock trigger at all. I really walked away liking the gun. I'm pretty sure the G17 will be my next purchase. It's ashame they didn't have a G19 to compare the size with. However, the G17 looks smaller than I anticipated. I think it'll be worthwhile to try to conceal it. I was really impressed how low the recoil felt for me.

Thanks for all the input everyone!
