I bought a Ruger M77 Mark II in .308 for deer and pigs and love it--a nice and light, but sturdy and accurate rifle for hunting. I have a little cheapo Simmons scope on it which does just fine. But not long ago I saw a catalog in which Ruger sells the same rifle with fixed sights.

Has anyone ever tried to have fixed sights installed on a rifle that came with only scope rings? Any suggests as to how to proceed would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

BlackJack,

You should probably post this over in the Gunsmithing section, as installing sights is a topic best addressed by a one of them thar 'smithys. Basically you have to drill and tap holes in the barrel. Not something to try as your first gunsmithing project.

Ashely Outdoors have backup ghost ring sights for scope mounts for rugers, but you will still need to have a front sight installed.

I thought about doing the exact same thing to my .308 M77MkII. I called around for some quotes, but got lazy and forgot about it. Ruger will do it for you, for the cost of their factory sights, labor and shipping. Use them as a price benchmark.
