Yesterday I took my Smith & Wesson model 640 no dash to the range for the second time. I fired fifty 158 grain lead rounds and ten Speer Gold Dot 135 +P. I did feel a difference between the regualr loaded rounds and the +Ps but they (the +Ps) were by no means uncomfortable to shoot. I guess the reason for sharing this is that it seems that some people posting here are concerned about the amount of recoil these rounds offer in a smaller weapon. Of course I am aware that the felt recoil would be worse in a lighter gun such as an airweight but in the ca. 20 oz. 640 it was not bad at all.

Overall I am very confident that the 135 grain Gold Dot ammo is a fine choice for a Smith & Wesson J frame.

I was also very happy with my own ability to hit the target shooting both strong and weak handed, and with both a two handed and one handed grip. I also did some shooting from the hip which worked very well at 5-10 feet range.

Good info.

The 640 no dash is a fantastic firearm. Looks like the Speer round is ideal for it.
