Well, its been awhile since I posted so I thought I might share my recent additions to my collection of edged beauties. I added a 4" Mora, number S2. I bought an S1 for my father and he loves it. I also got myself a Black Aluminum Spyderco Cara-Cara with the 8Cr13MoV blade. I got a SUPER deal on a SOG Twitch-II with the limited edition black graphite handles, only $25 due to a damaged clam pack. I also found a CRKT Sawtooth 2000 and bought it rather cheap only to find out that it was ground so horrebly that the tip is flat. It is still being worked on. I also changed out my Cold Steel Ti-Light as an EDC for my Benchmade Monochrome with N690 steel. I Am quiet impressed with these supposedly "lesser" Benchmades and Spydercos. Their extremely sharp and the steels are second to none. I also picked up a Mercator K-55 for $20 from atlanta cutlery. I have been perfecting my honing skills and hope to soon purchase a Black Arkanses Stone to finish my sharpening stone collection. I also added a Case Russlock with black bone handles. It pretty much stays in the box with my Case trapper. I only take them out when I plan to dress up. This all brings me to my questions...Does anyone know anything about the steel that Cold Steel switched to? Its "4116 Krupp Stainless". Why did they stop making blades in Carbon V? Does that make my ODA special? Also, does anyone have any info on the steel my Cara Cara is made of? In closing; I am very happy with my recent additions and I would reccomend the Mora, Cara Cara and Monochrome to anyone that wants a TRUE bargain for a quality knife with a quality price. Step up from crummy 440C (which I see some knife companies try to sell for hundreds of dollars) and get a steel thats superior. :neener:

You've been busy!

Don't knock 440C. Properly heat treated it is a perfectly good blade steel. J series steel or AUS-4 on the other hand deserve a :neener: .

Tactical Knives printed about 4116 krup in their Steel Bin article, but I cannot find my copy. Im sure that they printed it withen five or six months, sorry, but beyond that i cannot help

Carbon-V is a name created by Cold Steel. Its actually 0170-6C carbon tool steel made by Camillus. Same steel is used in the Becker line.

When Camillus come close to going belly-up last year, CS needed a new supplier. Hence the 4116 Krupp in the new knives.

I just got off the phone with a guy at cold steel. I asked about the change in steel and he said that the factory that was providing the Carbon-V knives was going so slow that they had back orders and were loosing buisiness. I just orderd a finnbear, so im hoping to see for myself. They might be making more in CV if they can find someone else to produce it. They also switched most of their folders to VG1, which means I could have had a Ti-Lite in VG1 instead of AUS8 but...what the heck, right? Anyways, late here which means no light for pics HOWEVER if I can fit a photo session into my busy homework schedual I will post pics up! Still want a friggen ti-lite in vg-1....

I once did a comparison test on aus8 vrs. vg1, chopping a pine 2x6 untill it lost the hair shaving edge, and the results
aus8: 1.5 by .75'' valley
vg1 : 3'' by 2.75'' valley ( much better in my book )
Since then that knife is currently my edc I can tell you that I only need to sharpen it once a month.
