I would like to equip my .308 Win with a set of removable aperture iron sights. I would want something like the peep sight for the AI rifles, but I want an adjustable rear sight (I think the rear AI sight is not adjustable and can only be set for different distances from 100 to 600 meters, but I might be wrong) that could be used for shooting from 100 to at least 300m (500 m optimum) and mounted easily on the picatinny rail. The front sight should mount on the barell by means of the dovetail or a barrel band clamp (barrel contour is a heavy varmint as described by Shilen.
At first I thought of an M-14 front sight, but concluded that accomodating the muzzle for an AI muzzle brake with base for a front AI iron sight would be better choice. That way I could use the AI mirage band mounted to the fron sight. But what about the rear aperture???
Can anyone help me?
Is my front sight choice correct, or is there better one?
What can I do about the very probable differences in height between the setup of the sight on the AI rifle and my own?
Can the AI front sight be easily shortened/elongated if needed?
Will be very gratefull for any help or advice!
