best hunting rifle to use open sights on?

Either a lever or the Ruger GSR
Anyone else with me on trying to get ruger to put the GSRs out in standard length cartridges? I've been bugging them since the day they introduced it! Please help me out!

I think the new Ruger Guide Gun is a close as you're going to get. The detachable magazine used by Ruger in the Gunsite won't take a standard cartridge. You could add a GSR peep to the Guide Gun with one hole T/D'd. Or use the NECG peep that fits a Ruger action. The rear sight on the GG could be taken off fairly easily and the dovetail on the base filled.

I am confused, what is non-conformant about the GSR in terms of .308 Win. cartridges it will accept? I've never heard any thing about this previously.

I took it that he wanted a rifle capable of firing a .30-06 length cartridge, the GSR magazine will take any normal length .308 round.
