Can/Should I attempt to build adjustable stock on Tikka-T3? I've found bits and pieces to the answer but nothing definitive. I visit this site often and believe the people that post on here are more knowledgeable than other sites so I'm coming to you looking for a more complete answer. First let me explain why I'm even considering this. I grew up bird hunting and until recently never owned a rifle (other than 22), I decided last year to join a deer hunting club so I could take my 8 year old son. I did a lot of research and decided a 7MM-08 was the right caliber for me to start with and eventually hand down to my son. One part of the research I totally forgot about was stock size/lop. I don't have the money to go buy him his own gun and I figure for at least the next 4 years or so, we'll be hunting (and learning) together. So far this season he has been fine letting me shoot.....but that won't last into next season. I'd like to be able to share this gun and simply adjust the lop depending on who might be shooting that day. I really like the gun and thought this might be a better option that trading this one in for one that already has an adjustable stock. I do wood working as a hobby so I'm not too concerned about cutting the stock and making the modification. However, I'm not a pro wood worker nor gunsmith. I don't want it to look like a rigged up piece of junk and lose all value, and more importantly don't want to overlook safety concerns that I may be totally ignorant of. I'm not even sure how to measure to make my son has enough eye relief. Trying to keep the cost of the modification under $100 if possible. For the right set up I might go a little over that but too much over and I think I'd be better off with a different gun. Any and all input would be appreciated.
Oh and one other thought I had was to purchase a wood stock blank and build an entirely new adjustable stock. I know where I can get a good deal on a blank already inlet for the Tikka. Not big on this option due to the amount of time required....but would consider this before buying a different gun.
Thanks
